The premiere of Fugitive Songs, a new musical by the emerging team of composer Chris Miller and lyricist Nathan Tysen, will be presented by Off-Broadway's Dreamlight Theatre Company, from March 8 - 30 at the 45th Street Theatre (354 West 45th Street). Directed by Joe Calarco, "Fugitive Songs" press opening is scheduled for Sunday, March 9 at 5PM.

"Musical theatre is not dead, it's on the lam. With their new song cycle, Fugitive Songs, Chris Miller and Nathan Tysen have crafted a series of thrilling theatre songs for their restless generation. Fugitive Songs is a 17-song journey across America, spotlighting people on the run: a disgruntled Subway sandwich employee, a jilted ex-cheerleader, a pair of Patty Hearst fanatics, a stoner who robs a convenience store against his will, and many others. Blending traditional folk music with contemporary pop, Fugitive Songs offers a new sound for a changing America," describe press notes.

Fugitive Songs features D.B. Bonds (Make Me A Song), Halle Petro, Todd E. Pettiford (Rent and The Lion King), Ben Roseberry (NYMF's Emma) and Lucia Spina (Les Miserables and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee). Justin Mendoza is music director for Fugitive Songs. The production is designed by Brian Prather, with costumes by Jennifer Caprio and lighting by Joel Shier.

Chris Miller and Nathan Tysen (Composer and Lyricist) were profiled in The Dramatist Magazine under "Fifty to Watch." Together they have written The Burnt Part Boys (book by Mariana Elder; developed at Theatreworks in Palo Alto; produced at Barrington Stage Co.; American Theatre Critics New Play Award Finalist; 2008 NEA Grant recipient; opening Off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theatre next season. Other work includes an adaptation of Chris Van Allsburg's picture book, The Mysteries of Harris Burdick (book by Joe Calarco; developed at Mercury Musical Developments in London, Playwrights Horizons, and Barrington Stage Co.). Chris and Nathan are recipients of the Vineyard Theatre's 2007 Kitty Carlisle Hart Award, a 2006 Richard Rodgers Award, the 2004 Darryl Roth Creative Spirit Award, a 2004 Frederick Loewe Foundation Grant, and the 2003 Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation Grant. They began their collaboration together at New York University where they received their MFA's in musical theatre writing. They are currently working on a commission from Lincoln Center Theater, and a new musical with playwright Craig Wright.
