Mother Africa at The New Victory Theater

• Dates: December 6, 2012- January 5, 2014
• Location: The New Victory Theater (209 W. 42nd Street)
• Cost: Tickets for Mother Africa cost $36, $22, $14 and $11 for Members based on seat locations, with full price tickets starting at $17.
• Description: Rich in rhythm and robust in song, Mother Africa 's acrobats, musicians and dancers light up the stage in a powerful performance of stunning African artistry. Featuring stilt walkers from Tanzania, jugglers from Ethiopia and a renowned contortionist from Kenya, modern circus arts meld with joyful dance and music among a marvel of traditional masks. Exuberant afro-beats radiate from the stage with every strike of the infectious djembe and strum of the mbira, while bazin and kitenge fabrics swirl in a spectacle of color. Merry and bright, this is one holiday party you won't want to miss!

Arts Express

• Date and Time: Sunday, December 8, 2013 and Sunday, January 5, 2014 before the 5PM performances
• Location: The New Victory Theater (209 W. 42nd Street)
• Cost: Free with ticket purchase
• Description: Come early to select performances of Mother Africa to play with New Victory Teaching Artists and participate in the art forms that you are about to see on stage. These events have a "drop-in" format and happen during the hour before a show starts in the lower lobby space.

Talk-Backs

• Date and Time: Saturday, December 7, 2013 and Friday, December 20, 2013 after the 7PM performances
• Location: The New Victory Theater (209 W. 42nd Street)
• Cost: Free with ticket purchase
• Description: Stay after select performances of Mother Africa and ask questions, find out more about how the show was made, and get to know the creative team and performers.

Family Workshops

• Location: New 42nd Street Studios (229 W. 42nd Street) where Broadway shows rehearse!
• Cost: $12 for members and $17 non-members
• Description: With no prior knowledge needed, families are welcome to come before or after the show, or without seeing the show at all. Taught by a professional ensemble of NEW VICTORY Teaching Artists.

*3-D Masks*

Saturday, December 7 at 12 pm and 4 pm

· Construct a multi-dimensional mask and learn the skill of mask performance.

· Best for ages 6 and up. (90 minutes long)

*African Dance*

Saturday, December 14 at 12 pm and 4 pm

· Experience the power and grace of African dance.

· Best for ages 5 and up. (90 minutes long)
