MARX IN SOHO by Howard Zinn to Make New York Premiere at Soho Playhouse

MARX IN SOHO, written by Howard Zinn (A People's History of the United States) will make its New York premiere, directed by John Doyle. Starring Bob Weick, MARX IN SOHO will play 9 performances only at Soho Playhouse (15 Vandam Street), April 30-May 6, 2018. Opening night is set for Tuesday, May 1. Tickets are available now.

Howard Zinn's celebrated play comes "home" to the Soho Playhouse, starring Bob Weick as Karl Marx. Marx engages in a passionate, funny and moving commentary about contemporary American politics and society. Join Karl Marx to celebrate the 200th anniversary of his? birth! Birthday celebrations to follow the Saturday evening performance.

Star Bob Weick has portrayed the role of Karl Marx in MARX IN SOHO for the last fourteen years, working in collaboration with the late Howard Zinn until his death in 2010.

The performance schedule is as follows: Monday, April 30 at 7pm; Tuesday, May 1 at 7pm; Wednesday, May 2 at 2pm and 7pm; Thursday, May 3 at 7pm;Friday, May 4 at 7pm; Saturday, May 5 at 2pm and 7pm; and Sunday, May 6 at 2pm. Tickets for all performances at 7:30pm are $45 and are available at sohoplayhouse.com or by phone at (212) 691-1555. Exceptions: the performance on Saturday, May 5 at 7:30pm is a celebratory performance in honor of Karl Marx's 200th birthday. Tickets are $65, with a reception to follow.

BOB WEICK is the celebrated national touring actor of Howard Zinn's MARX IN SOHO. A veteran stage actor in Philadelphia, he is a two-time Barrymore nominee with Iron Age Theatre (TERRA NOVA) and Theatre Horizon (CIRCLE MIRROR TRANSFORMATION). Bob's friendship and working relationship with the late Howard Zinn began in 2004 with the critically acclaimed sold out Philadelphia premiere of MARX IN SOHO. Bob has gone on to perform the piece over 300 times across the country from Maine to California. Bob is a company member of Iron Age Theatre, where he collaborates with artistic director John Doyle as theatre activist and educator. Bob also serves the equine community as a farrier. In April, he is presenting hoof care clinics in hurricane ravaged Vieques, while also performing the play for the beleaguered Island community. Following this NYC production Bob and MARX IN SOHO move on to a six-week tour of the UK.

John Doyle founded Iron Age Theatre (www.ironagetheatre.org) with Randall Wise in 1992 and has been producing theatre with that company ever since. He has directed more than 50 professional productions with the Iron Age including several Barrymore Nominated production including TERRA NOVA, Elephant Man, Maroons, and A Great War. He has shepherded development of more than 17 new plays in the past seven years and devised, in collaboration with the Norristown NAACP, an Annual Juneteenth dramatic walking tour. John has directed with Eastern State Penitentiary, Play, Pie and a Pint, the Philadelphia Dramatists Centre, Plays and Players, Tiny Dynamite, Hedgerow, The Bridge Project and the One Minute Play Festival. He has developed company collaborations with South Camden Theatre, Theatre in the X and the August Wilson Consortium. He directed and edited the film, Nick of Time, Nick of Time about NIck Virgilio which is touring Film Festivals in 2018. John developed and administered the Independent Voices Festival and Walla Fest in Norristown. He has been working to explore the limits of digital theatre and the intersection of dramaturgy and artistic creation through the Fringe Wraiths Project. He founded the process based Kids: Heart of the Arts youth education program. He is a videographer and teaches philosophy. John is a passionate volunteer serving where there is need. This artistic work is an extension of that service.
