The critically acclaimed hit off-Broadway play The Effect, which extended earlier this year, is currently in its final weeks at the Barrow Street Theatre (27 Barrow Street) and will play its final performance on Sunday, September 4th, 2016 after 20 previews and 192 regular performances.

Written by Lucy Prebble and directed by David Cromer, the final cast of The Effect features Anne Bates (Alison's House), Colin Bates (Billy Elliot, West End), Kati Brazda (Our Town), Steve Key (August: Osage County), and Mark Shock (Our Town).

In The Effect, Connie and Tristan have palpable chemistry-or is it a side effect of a new super-antidepressant? They are volunteers in a clinical trial, but their sudden and illicit romance forces the supervising doctors to face off over the ethical consequences of their work. From Lucy Prebble, "one of the UK's hottest new playwrights" (The Telegraph), The Effect takes on our pill-popping culture with humor and scintillating drama.

The design team for The Effect includes Marsha Ginsberg (Scenic Design), Sarah Laux (Costume Design), Tyler Micoleau (Lighting Design), Erik T. Lawson (Sound Design), Maya Ciarrocchi (Projection Design), Daniel Kluger (Original Music), Carrie Mossman (Properties Design), J. David Brimmer (Fight Direction), Cindy Tolan, C.S.A (Casting), and Richard A. Hodge (Production Stage Manager).

The Effect is produced off-Broadway by The National Theatre of Great Britain's North American wing (Tim Levy, Producer), Scott Morfee, Jean Doumanian, Tom Wirtshafter, Patrick Daly, Marc & Lisa Biales, Burnt Umber Productions, Scott M. Delman, Dominion Pictures, Dede Harris, JFL Theatricals, Roger E. Kass,Sheila Nevins, and Catherine Schreiber.

The Effect was commissioned by Headlong and originally produced by The National Theatre and Headlong in London. This entirely American production marks the off-Broadway debut by The National Theatre.
