'Littlest Light on the Christmas Tree' Begins Dec.8

The Littlest Light on the Christmas Tree, the animated film which won the "Best Animated Feature" Accolades Award, has been adapted as a stage musical for young audiences and will premiere in New York City at Vital Theatre Company (2162 Broadway, 4th Floor) for a special limited engagement starting December 8 through January 6.

Performances take place on Saturdays and Sundays at 11 AM and 1 PM, plus additional weekday performances on Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 11 AM; Friday, Dec. 14, at 11 AM; Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Dec. 26, 27 and 28, at 1 PM; and Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Jan. 2, 3 and 4, at 1 PM. There will be workshops following the performances on Dec. 15, 22 and 26.

"Featuring original songs destined to become yuletide classics, Littlest Light is a magical musical about two unforgettable friends, a discarded Christmas bulb and an eight-year-old boy who finds him and takes him home. When the town suffers a blackout from a fierce winter storm, Little Light triumphs over all odds to 'shine' the way for others 'to see the light.' It's a story about the miracle of believing and the power of the human heart," explain press notes.

The cast of the Vital Theatre production includes (in alphabetical order): Erin Wegner Brooks (Maggie); William Nash Broyles (Colonel); Thom Caska (Girthmore); Reid Kendall (Frank); Adam Mosebach (Jeepers); Katherine Rose Riley (Timmy); Justin Stoney (Little Light); Linsie Van Winkle (Esther); Jon Vertuno (Mr. Goodley); and Amy Zelcer (Melissa).

Produced by Vital Theatre Company, Inc. in association with Little Light Live, LP, The Littlest Light on the Christmas Tree features an original score by Peter Lewis and book written by Jim Hindman and Cheryl Stern with lyrics by Tommy Marolda and Larry Hoelcffener.

The Vital Theatre production is directed by Steven Harris, based on the original direction and choreography by Luis Perez. The set design is by Michael Lasswell and the costumes are by Emily McConnell. The orchestrations and Midi are by Ethan Deppe. The Music Director is Justin Stoney. The Production Stage Manager is Kara Teolis and the Stage Manager is Sharon Gregory.

The stage production of The Littlest Light on the Christmas Tree is based on the award-winning animated film starring the voices of Emmy and Tony Award winners, Jane Seymour (Dancing With the Stars) and James Naughton (Chicago) which is being released on DVD in December by Peter Pan video.

A touring production of The Littlest Light on the Christmas Tree, directed and choreographed by Luis Perez, will be presented in Chicago area theaters and elsewhere around the nation during this holiday season. The road production opens on December 4, 2007 at The Center for Performing Arts, Governors State University, University Park, IL., and continues on December 6 and 7 at the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts, Suffolk, VA; December 9 at the Leach Theatre, University of Missouri, Rolla, MO;  December 12 at the Stocker Center for the Arts, Elyria, OH; and December 15 and 16 at the Victoria Theatre, Dayton, OH.
