Galli's Fairytale Theater Entertains Young Audiences On V-tines Weekend

By: Feb. 04, 2010

Galli's Fairytale Theater will entertain young audiences on Valentine's Day weekend with two love stories and a Prince and Princess party. The plays are for kids 3 years old and up and will be performed at Galli's midtown theater, 38 W. 38 Street, between 5th and 6th Avenues, Manhattan.

The theater will offer The Little Mermaid, an uplifting remake of the original Hans Christian Andersen story about a young mermaid who gives up her life under the sea to gain a human soul and a prince's love, on Saturday, February 13, at 3 p.m.. Snow White will enchant families, and Mr. 7-Dwarf, the all-in-one dwarf, who will rescue her not once, but three times, on Valentine's Day, Sunday, February 14. The show starts at 3 p.m. and is followed by a Prince & Princess Party at 4. Children are invited to dress up in their favorite fairy-tale costumes, or choose from Galli's costumes. Galli's theater specialists, who engage kids in fun activities including dances and games, will offer an award for the best costumes.

The theater's Dr. Fairytale Program will receive 100 percent of the proceeds from ticket sales. The program combines acting and storytelling to help children overcome anxiety and self-doubts, and to deliver hope and joy to sick children in hospitals, orphanages, and crisis areas. In 2007 a terrible earthquake hit Peru and made many children homeless and to orphans. Galli's Dr. Fairytale Program supports the Earthquake of the Heart Association in Chincha, Peru, where children have been dealing with emotionally challenging situations since then. "Galli's Dr. Fairytale Program helps children to overcome fears and traumas, and to find a ray of hope. Seeing the children engage in the interactive fairy tale plays of the Galli Theater is such a blessing," said Karina Quispe, director of Earthquake of the Heart Association.

Playwright, clown, and director Johannes Galli has been bringing fairy tales to kids for almost 25 years. Believing that fairy tales are healing for children, he uses the original story but changes the "grim" version into a humorous play that entertains kids and adults alike and has a fun and educating message in the end. Galli Fairytale Theaters have been established in Germany, Ireland, Peru, Canada, Mexico, Austria, and the U.S. Galli's Fairytale Theater in New York City is the first in the U.S. and is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
