Fledgling Theatre Company to Bring Nicky Silver's Updated THE ALTRUISTS to Theatre Row
The Fledgling Theatre Company will present its production of Nicky Silver's THE ALTRUISTS this spring when it seems to have as much, if not more, relevance than it did when it premiered in 2000.
Directed by Amanda Connors, THE ALTRUISTS is a vital and provocative play that revolves around a dedicated, if disorganized and demented, group of young radicals. These are the kids who protest. They protest arts funding and arms funding. They protest school cutbacks and AIDS cutbacks and welfare cutbacks. They march for gay rights and children's rights and Women Against Drunk Drivers. However, they are not always prepared and on this particular Sunday, their morality is put to the test.
Complete with Nicky Silver's new updates and edits, THE ALTRUISTS is a story that examines the state of the Millennial generation from the inside out and asks if the "me" generation will rise to the occasion and take its place in the continually evolving leadership of our country.
"We hope to inspire positive change if in no other way than by sparking a dialogue among those who can, and hopefully will, make a difference," said producer Matthew Dalton Lynch, who is also a Fledgling Theatre Company member.
Other cast members are Amy Newhall, Javan Lee Neslon, Sarah Shear and Johnathan Santos. Stage Manager: Aoife Dundas. Set Designer: Matthew S. Crane.
Costume designer is Isaac VanCuren. Lighting designer is Sophie Silleck.
Performances are April 13th, 14th, 15th, 19th, 20th, 21st and 22nd at 8pm and April 16th at 3pm in the Studio Theater at Theatre Row, 410 W 42nd St, New York, NY 10036.
