FRECKLEFACE THE MUSICAL, the off Broadway family hit based on the popular children's book "Freckleface Strawberry" by actress Julianne Moore, will close at the Manhattan Movement & Arts Center (MMAC Theatre) today following a long run which initially began on October 1st, 2010 at New World Stages. The musical subsequently closed at NWS on April 24th, 2011 and reopened at the MMAC Theatre on November 8th, 2011.

Produced by MMAC Productions, FRECKLEFACE THE MUSICAL has music and lyrics by Garry Kupper and book by Kupper and Rose Caiola. It was conceived for the stage by Rose Caiola. The current cast includes Francesca McGrory as Strawberry along with William Bailey, Sarah Haines, Matthew Hooper, Bridget Riley, Ashley Tobias and Wesley Tunison. The show is directed by Buddy Crutchfield with choreography by Gail Pennington Crutchfield.

The show recently had its first out of town performance in Phoenix, Arizona. Plans are underway for a National Tour as well as licensing productions in Asia.

Touching on important messages including bullying, the family-friendly musical chronicles the life of a young girl, Strawberry being teased by her schoolmates for having bright red hair and freckles. It was the story of the book author, Julianne Moore's childhood. She feels different from everyone else and does anything to get rid of them-from scrubbing them with soap and even wearing a ski mask to school. Strawberry goes on a journey and discovers that all people are different and unique. She ultimately learns to accept herself for all of who she is-freckles and all!
