"Emerging Artists Theater, with its One Woman Standing festival, offers performers a chance to test-drive new pieces (some as short as five minutes) and participate in an audience talk-back afterward. Stacy Mayer, a company member responsible for selecting submissions, explained that the festival was intended to be part of a performer's process. "You can't create a solo show in a box," she said. "You need to get up and do it." Due to demand, a festival for male performers, One Man Talking, was added three years ago." -NY Times

Many previous shows developed for Illuminating Artists have gone on to myriad other festivals, such as the New York and Edinburgh Fringe festivals, and have been nominated for Innovative Theatre Awards.

EMERGING ARTISTS THEATRE provides a dynamic home for playwrights and artists to develop their work from an idea to fully realized production. In the past 17 years, Emerging Artists has premiered over 275 new works and also: garnered a Drama desk nomination; received the American Theatre Wing award for Commitment to Excellence in Theatre; and named Best Off Off Broadway Theatre Company in NYC for Actors To Work With by Backstage Magazine. In the last 5 years alone, Emerging Artists has provided opportunities for over 1500 diverse artists (who did not have the resources themselves) to see their work developed and premiered.
