Amas Musical Theatre and The Amas Musical Theatre Lab will present staged readings for the New York premiere of 'Round Thelonious, a new play with music about the unique relationship between Rothschild heiress Pannonica (Nica) de Koenigswarter and jazz genius Thelonious Monk, written and performed by Anita Pollard. Directed by Shidan Majidi with Musical Direction by Willerm Delisfort (on piano), the readings will be held on Monday, July 25th and Tuesday, July 26th at 7pm at Ripley Greer Studios (939 Eighth Avenue - between 55th & 56th Streets). The readings are free and the seating is limited. For reservations, please email boxoffice@amasmusical.org or call 212-563-2565.

'Round Thelonious tells the remarkable tale of Nica and Monk's special and enduring friendship in the face of racism, prejudice and 1950s society's ideals of conformity. This one-woman play weaves a highly entertaining monologue with the groundbreaking music of Thelonious Monk, portraying this real-life story on the stage for the very first time.

These presentations are part of the ongoing Amas Musical Theatre Lab, a development series for writers, lyricists and composers to mount free public readings of their new musicals. The Lab is supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, and by the Actors' Equity Association Foundation, BMI Foundation, the Barbara Bell Cumming Foundation, the Lucille Lortel Foundation, the Frederick Loewe Foundation, the Friars Club, the Shubert Foundation, and through the generous support of many individuals.
