Lincoln Center Theater's Platform Series, a forum for public discussion between Lincoln Center Theater artists and interested theatergoers, opens its 2007-2008 season on Tuesday, October 23, at 6PM with a pre-performance talk with lyricist and bookwriter, Lynn Ahrens, and composer, Stephen Flaherty, the creators of the new musical, The Glorious Ones, along with Francine Prose, the author of the novel on which the musical is based.  The Glorious Ones the first production of Lincoln Center Theater's 23rd season, is a backstage musical about the lives, loves, ambitions, and art of the performers in a 16th-century commedia dell'arte troupe in Italy of the late Renaissance.

Platform Series events take place in the lobby of the Vivian Beaumont Theater (150 West 65th Street).   Admission is free and open to all; however, seating in the lobby is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis only, beginning at 5:30PM (Speakers and schedules are subject to change.  Call 212-362-7600 to confirm on the day of the event.).

Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty return to Lincoln Center Theater where their musicals Dessa Rose, A Man Of No Importance and My Favorite Year were first produced.  Their Broadway credits include Ragtime (Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics' Circle Awards, two Grammy nominations), Seussical (Drama Desk and Grammy nominations), Once on This Island (Tony nomination; Olivier Award for Best Musical, London), and Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life.

Francine Prose is the author of 14 books of fiction, including the novels "Blue Angel," a finalist for the National Book Award, and "The Glorious Ones."  Her nonfiction includes "Reading Like a Writer: A Guide For People Who Love Books and for Those Who Want to Write Them" (a national best-seller), "The Lives of the Muses: Nine Women and the Artists They Inspired" and "Caravaggio: Painter of Miracles."  She is the recipient of numerous grants and awards, among them the Dayton Literary Peace Prize, Guggenheim and Fulbright fellowships.

Lincoln Center Theater's platform series was introduced in the summer of 1998.  Transcripts of the previous talks are available on-line at www.lct.org.
