59E59 Theaters Announces The Line Up For The 2018 EAST TO EDINBURGH Festival

59E59 Theaters (Val Day, Artistic Director; Brian Beirne, Managing Director) announces the 2018 line up for the annual EAST TO EDINBURGH festival. EAST TO EDINBURGH begins on Tuesday, July 10 for a limited engagement through Sunday, July 29. The performance schedule varies. Performances are at 59E59 Theaters (59 East 59th Street, between Park and Madison Avenues). Tickets to each EAST TO EDINBURGH show are $15 ($12 for 59E59 Members). Tickets can be purchased by calling Ticket Central at 212-279-4200 or online via www.59e59.org.

Created as a way to help shows get on their feet before flying off to Scotland for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (the largest arts festival in the world), EAST TO EDINBURGH simulates the same production constraints that all shows experience during the Fringe, while giving companies a clean, comfortable, and nurturing space to fine-tune their productions. This year's whirlwind festival features thirteen adventurous productions from around New York and across the US.

VAN GOGH FIND YOURSELF written and performed by Walter DeForest

Get Drawn In! Audience members create art along with Vincent while secrets are exposed. The ear incident and his death are two colossal events, but evenmore are revealed. DRUNK LION follows an alcoholic Lion who spends his days drinking into oblivion in a cantina, until he meets Chris, a young foreigner learning how to speak Spanish. The unlikely pair forge an intoxicated bond over life, love, and alcohol.

Over 50 years ago, thousands of young American women went to Vietnam to serve their country during the war. In 2016, Infinite Variety Productions interviewed five of these women-- two military officers, three civilian employees, all volunteers. Hearing their poignant, horrific, funny, and endearing memories, IN THEIR FOOTSTEPS tells the often unknown, but extremely timely story showing the human side of war. Created directly from the oral histories with an innovative set using five blocks that evolve into bunkers, rooftops, military vehicles and more, IN THEIR FOOTSTEPS is a poignant journey through the lives of these women.

From the team behind the downtown hit David Carl's Celebrity One- Man Hamlet (formerly titled Gary Busey's One-Man Hamlet) comes a new Shakespeare adaptation: Trump Lear. Actor and impersonator, Carl David, is being held without bail for his Trump-inspired version of Shakespeare's King Lear. Carl David is forced to perform his King Lear
to an unseen online audience of one, as the President restlessly watches remotely from a live and public feed. The stakes are high: if Trump likes Carl and his show, Carl lives. If not, Carl dies. But how can Carl get through a show where he has created a Lear based on Trump himself without offending the audience.

SOLARPLEXUS: AN ALTERNATIVE ENERGY PLAY is a sci-fi comedy about a woman trying to stop the apocalypse with a pedal-powered bicycle. Standing in her way are her delusional father, her corporate sellout brother, and the ominous tech mogul who just might have created the problem in the first place. Exploring themes of environmentalism, corporate corruption, and renewable energy, the piece uses an actual pedal-powered bike to power significant energy needs in the production design. Corporate surveillance and conspiracies abound in this hyper-speed piece of sustainable sci-fi theater.

A bubbly bundle of energy named Vivian, the mysterious jazz legend Luigi Wells, and the racial tensions of a segregated American city in 1969 combine in this fantasia on race, music, and family, before the riot comes.
