3Isles Presents NEVER IN MY LIFETIME

3 ISLES is pleased to announce the New York premiere production of Shirley Gee?s Never in My Lifetime, directed by Tim Ruddy. Never in My Lifetime will play a three-week limited engagement at the Access Theater (380 Broadway). Performances begin Wednesday, February 3 and continue through Sunday, February 21. Opening Night is Saturday, February 6 (8 p.m.). Press are cordially invited to all performances.

This is a love story about six people. It is also a story of survival and the indomitable human spirit in Belfast, a city reminiscent of any in the world where there is violence and conflict. Tessie and Maire are young Irish Catholics who have been friends all of their lives. One is fiercely loyal to Irish unity; the other is uncommitted. Tom and Charlie are young British soldiers determined to stay alive in the bitter strife they neither understand nor care about. The other two are Tessie's mother and Charlie's wife. Tessie's and Tom's paths cross. As they turn to one another, they find something precious in a world of loss and are caught in a ferocious trap, which ensnares all six.

The production stars Fiana Toibin* (Long Day's Journey into Night (Tony Revival ?03 with Vanessa Redgrave), The Weir, Shining City).

The production features scenic design by Marianne Lu, lighting design by Jonathan Spencer and costume design by Ellen Johansing. Colin Adams-Toomey is the stage manager.

BIOGRAPHIES

SHIRLEY GEE (Playwright) received the prestigious Susan Smith Blackburn Prize in 1984 for Never In My Lifetime, which had its American premiere at the Hartman Theater Company in 1987. Having debuted as a radio broadcast play, Never In My Lifetime was honored as one of the "Best Radio Plays of 1983" receiving the BBC Giles Cooper Award. The play was first produced on the London stage in 1984. Since then, this meaningful, uncompromising piece has been internationally performed. Never In My Lifetime was also bestowed the Samuel Beckett Award. In this play, provocative themes and a new style of dramaturgy are achieved by Ms. Gee, creatively dealing with emotional and physical traumas and urgent issues of politics and war, in a most candid manner.

TIM RUDDY (Director) started his career as an actor with the Royal Court Youth Theatre in London before attending The Deleon School for Performing Arts in Richmond Surrey. His work in Ireland has included a number of productions with Abbey Theatre and five years starring as Oliver O?Driscoll in the top rated TV drama ?Glenroe,? as well as featuring as Detective Hackett in the BBC?s acclaimed series ?Ballykissangel.? He has performed in the Broadway tour of Stones in His Pockets by Marie Jones and in many Off-Broadway productions including Philadelphia, Here I Come, The Field, Defender of the Faith,Prisoner of the Crown at the Irish Rep., and the world premiere of Rockdoves by Marie Jones at the Irish Arts Center. His film and TV work includes Gettysburg (TNT), Gods and Generals (Warner Brothers), ?Days of Our Lives? (NBC) and the recently released WC (Mochain Films). As a director/producer Tim founded and directed The Children of Lir theatre group in Los Angeles where he directed Voices from the Liffey by the late Stephen Brennan and was also a producer on the smash hit production ofTranslations by Brian Friel at the Celtic Arts Centre in Hollywood. Recent directing credits include After Luke and When I Was God by Conal Creedon for the Irish Repertory Theatre as part of the 1st Irish Theatre festival 2009 (award, best director) last year and the world premiere of The Bottom of the Lake and Swansong by Conor McDermottroe for acclaimed Boston theatre company, TirNa, at the Boston Center for the Arts (BCA). He is currently in production on two documentaries, ?Stories from Hells Kitchen? and ?Two Men and the Islands" for Irish Film and Media. It has been an honour for him to work with such a talented cast on Never in my Lifetime.
