TheatreLAB to Launch 4th Season with MOTHER COURAGE AND HER CHILDREN
TheatreLAB, Richmond's home for unexpected and evocative performance, will launch their 2016/2017 Season, "WOMEN AT WAR," with Bertolt Brecht's Mother Courage and Her Children.
Directed by Keri Wormald, this immersive new take on the greatest anti-war play of all time will run from October 28th to November 12th at TheatreLAB's venue, The Basement (300 East Broad Street).
Hailed as one of the 20th century's greatest dramatic masterpieces, Bertolt Brecht's MOTHER COURAGE AND HER CHILDREN follows one woman's survival during the wicked, tumultuous times of war. The plot follows the resilient Mother Courage who survives by running a commissary business that profits from all sides of war. As the war claims all of her children in turn, the play poignantly demonstrates that no one can profit from the war without also being subject to its terrible cost.
From Director Keri Wormald: "Brecht's masterpiece couldn't be more timely--especially given the political discourse we've heard over the past two years. But don't think that Mother Courage is too 'heavy' in light of the coming election! Brecht has his soldiers singing, dancing, and pointing out ironic - often funny - universal truths... I've been waiting to get my hands on a script this good for years. This play, often referenced as the greatest anti-war play ever written, has been there all along. It just took TheatreLAB to pull it off the shelf!"
From Artistic Director, Deejay Gray: "Our WOMEN AT WAR Season couldn't start off with a more fitting piece than Brecht's epic tale of a woman at war with herself and the world around her. All of us at TheatreLAB are thrilled to continue to produce unexpected and evocative theatre with Mother Courage and look forward to audiences getting to experience this classic in a fresh, reimagined way. Come prepared to enter a war zone up close and personal at The Basement - over 70 years since it was written, this Mother still lands a punch!"
The cast features Mark Caudle, Donna E. Coghill, Kelsey Cordrey, Savannah Hatcher, Marquis Hazelwood, Jahred King, Tyler Nobles, Amber Martinez, Anna Rose, and Boomie Pederson as Mother Courage. The production team includes Musical Direction by Savannah Hatcher; Wagon and Costume Design by Ryan Gardner; Lighting Design by Erin Barclay; Production Assistance by Stacey Vega; Bar Management by Maggie Bavolack; Dramaturgy by Tyra Robinson; with Stage Management and Assistant Direction by Kelsey Cordrey.
Mother Courage will open on October 28th and run through November 12th. There will be a special low-priced preview performance on October 27th (tickets - $15) and an industry night on November 1st (tickets - $20). For a full performance schedule, visit TheatreLABrva.org.
Seating is limited and ticket prices range from $10-30. Tickets are on sale now at TheatreLABrva.org. TheatreLAB is Richmond's home for unexpected and evocative performance. The Basement is located at 300 East Broad Street in Richmond's Arts District.
