The Strange Truth of Time, Death, & Historical Accuracy by Martin W. Prevost World Premiere Production

Auditions: March 30&31 6-8pm at Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary 151 N Broadway St, Green Bay, WI 54303.

Rehearsals will also be held at audition venue Mon, Tues, & Thurs. Cat dander is present at location.

Performances: May 23&24 at Madworld Artists Collective, May 26&27 at Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary, & May 29-31 at The Art Garage

Synopsis:

The play is set in a modern coffee shop where characters from different historical periods and even the future converge. The characters include a writer from the Shakespearian era; the barista; an actress from the Civil War era; a German soldier from WWII; a freedom fighter from the year 2234; and a man for the new testament times. Each character is waiting for an important meeting that could change their lives.

As they interact, they discuss their respective historical contexts, their hopes, and their fears. The play explores themes of time, death, and historical accuracy, questioning how history remembers individuals and events. The characters' conversations reveal their struggles with their identities and their places in history, ultimately highlighting the interconnectedness of their experiences despite the vast differences in their backgrounds.

The play is a blend of comedy and drama, with witty dialogues and poignant moments that reflect on the nature of existence and the impact of historical events on personal lives. Leaving the audience to ponder the strange truth of time and history.

Cast of Characters:
Mel Morton- Male, 30’s-50’s appearing. An Elizabethan-era playwright, Mel is anxious about meeting William Shakespeare and obsessed with his own legacy. He’s insecure about his work, often referencing his failed plays and longing for recognition. Mel’s interactions are comedic and self-deprecating, and he represents the struggle for artistic validation and historical remembrance.

Allison Carter- Female, 20’s-30’s appearing. The modern coffee shop worker, Allison, is practical, witty, and serves as the voice of reason. She mediates between the eccentric customers, often grounding their historical confusion with contemporary logic. Allison’s role is to facilitate conversation and provide comic relief through her modern perspective.

Beverly Crane- Female, 20’s-30’s appearing. A young woman from the Civil War-era. Beverly is an actress performing in “Our American Cousin” and is John Wilkes Booth’s girlfriend. She’s ambitious, hoping to impress President Lincoln and join his “secret theater company.” Beverly’s character explores themes of fame, historical tragedy, and the fleeting nature of recognition.

Hans Roth- Male, 20’s-30’s appearing. A WWII German soldier, Hans is rigid, demanding, and obsessed with perfection. He’s waiting for a meeting with Joseph Goebbels and struggles with the moral complexities of his time. Hans’s character brings in themes of historical villainy, denial, and the absurdity of evil.

Quinn Morgan- Female, Any Age. Dressed in futuristic war garb, Quinn is a rebel from the future, fighting against tyranny in the galaxy. Quinn’s character introduces sci-fi elements and questions about justice, historical cycles, and the reliability of information. Quinn’s “info-static eye drive” symbolizes the future’s obsession with data.

Asher- Male, 20’s-30’s appearing. A disciple from the biblical era, Asher is humble and philosophical, seeking to become the thirteenth apostle. He represents faith, the passage of time, and the tension between myth and reality. Asher’s presence brings spiritual and existential questions to the group.
