THE CAKE BY BEKAH BRUNSTETTER - Merely Players Presents Non Equity Auditions

Synopsis:
Della’s North Carolina bakery is legendary! She is overjoyed when the girl she raised as her
own daughter, Jen, returns from New York to get married and asks Della to make her wedding
cake. Della, a sweet-natured Christian, is forced to re-examine her deeply-held beliefs and her
own marriage when she realizes there is not one bride, but two. Faith, family, and frosting collide
in this timely new play.

Characters:
Della - 40’s/50’s. Bakery owner. Round. Christian. Classic southern woman with a profound love
for baking cakes.

Tim - 40’s/50’s. Della’s husband. Good ole boy. Somewhat removed emotionally, but comes
around.

Jen - Early 30’s. Has dreamt of her wedding her entire life. Lost her mom 5 years ago, and is
choosing to get married in her small town the way she and her mom discussed.

Macy - Early 30’s. Jen’s fiancé. African American. Strong willed and agnostic. A total challenge
to the norm of this small North Carolina town.

Auditions details are below:

Sunday, March 8th from 1 to 3
Monday, March 9th 7 to 9
Auditions will consist of prepared 60 second monologues. Sides provided upon request.

INVITED CALLBACKS:
Tuesday, March 10th

Callbacks will consist of sides from the script, provided via email the day before.

REHEARSAL CALENDAR:
3 days a week, primarily Tues-Thurs until closer to show dates.
Printed copy provided at auditions for actor review.

TECH WEEK:
Saturday, May 30th - Wednesday, June 3rd
*No conflicts accepted during this time
