PLOT:
“Senioritis – We’re Still Here!”, written and conceived by DonnaD Lipari is a fresh, original musical bursting with laughter, heart, and a whole lot of wisdom. Eight spirited seniors, ages 70 to 80, all move into an assisted living facility on the very same day. At first, they’re weighed down by sadness, convinced life as they knew it has come to an end. But that gloom quickly flips to joy when they discover that aging isn’t a limitation—it’s an opportunity.
Through hilarious parodies and uplifting original songs, these vibrant characters prove that age is only a state of mind, and that how we grow older is truly our choice. With courage, humor, and the insight that only experience can bring, they unlock surprising new sides of themselves.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
All Characters should be able to play 70’s-80’s, except the two activities directors, who should play 30’s-40’s
1st Couple
THERESA – old world Italian, a bit overweight, wears a housedress, hair in a bun, orthopedic shoes. Not worldly – spent her entire life working in their Italian deli in Brooklyn
SAL – her husband – also has known nothing but work. He has a slight touch of dementia – beginning to forget things. Theresa runs the show.
2nd Couple
MITZI – a “fashionista”, loves makeup and wearing loud colors, very sociable, happy-go-lucky, enjoys the “finer” things
SID – a very bright man – had his own business but lets Mitzi run the show – did not really want to go into an assisted living facility
3rd Couple
FERNANDO – hispanic, former dancer and drag queen, very flamboyant, also very kind-hearted…Giovanni’s support system
GIOVANNI – Italian – is a bit more the “diva”. Depends on Fernando to stoke his ego a bit. He was a professional opera singer and singing teacher. Had to stop due to hearing loss which has made him a bit depressed.
PEARL – widow, pretty and stylishly dressed, very sweet, a bit on the shy side. Her marriage was set up as a business arrangement so she has never experienced “true” love. Worked in the fashion industry.
ERNIE – African American – Was a Physical Education teacher and coach until retirement, also was in a loveless marriage
DOLLY – Head “Activities Director”. She has worked in this field her entire life and is pretty much on auto-pilot…now just going through the motions faking enthusiasm. She is not married.
DAVE – Assistant Activities Director -a fun-loving guy, very sincere. Follows Dolly’s direction but does express his opinion. Married with small child
