It is based on the life and poetry of Pablo Neruda and on his stormy, passionate relationship with Matilde Urrutia. A fundraising event is planned for Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the Flamboyán Theatre in Manhattan, in anticipation of a full production in Spring 2014. BREAKDOWN: Singers: Pablo Neruda, TENOR, 30’s-40’s. Range of low C# to high Bb. Matilde Urrutia, MEZZO SOPRANO, 30’s 40’s. Range of low G# to high A. Actors Pablo Neruda, (alter ego) M, 30’s-40’s. Matilde Urrutia, (alter ego) F, 30’s-40’s. REQUIREMENTS: Experience in musical theater and/or opera as well as experience in chamber music is desirable. The singers must also be excellent actors and comfortable moving on stage. The text uses the poetry of Pablo Neruda and, for this production, is in English, but knowledge of Spanish is a plus WHO WE ARE: Voice Afire Pocket Opera and Cabaret is a production company with a new concept. We combine actors, singers and musicians to create musical theatre/pocket opera on an intimate level, theater integrated with chamber music. Over the last five years our productions have included Butterfly's Trouble (at the 45th St. Theatre, NYC), Close Embrace (a tango show for eight performers), The Magical Singing Drum (an African show for children), and The Art of Love/Into The Labyrinth (a multi-media show for two pianists, actor and visuals.
