Time: 1:00pm–5:00pm & 6:30pm–10:00pm
Please prepare 32 bar cuts of musical theatre songs in the style(s) of the show(s): more standard for CHRISTMAS, more contemporary for MAMMA MIA!, and showcasing the extent of your vocal range and vocal ability for HUNCHBACK. Have cuts prepared, but bring entire songs just in case. Accompanist will be provided. Please bring sheet music in your key for the accompanist, with cuts marked very clearly, and please minimize loose sheets of paper. Be prepared to read from the script or dance if asked. Please bring appropriate dance attire, a headshot or recent photograph, and a résumé. AEA Guest Artists Contracts for some roles.

Character Descriptions for A Christmas Spectacular
This will be an exciting production of singing and dancing for the Christmas Season. Riverside Center is seeking actors, singers over the age of 18; children’s auditions will be held for this production at a later date. Help us bring in the Holidays by auditioning on Monday, July 17th , 2017.


Character Descriptions for Mama Mia

Donna - (late 30s-early 50s – the mother of a 20-year-old girl) Attractive and free-spirited. A former lead singer in a group called “Donna and the Dynamos” who now owns and runs a hotel/casino on a Greek island. A strong feminist who also has a zany and vulnerable side. Principal role.

Sophie - (18-25) A very special young woman who is determined to find the romance and happiness she feels eluded her mother. Has a wild, zany spirit even though she pursues a conventional marriage. Pop soprano. Principal role.

Tanya - (late 30s-early 50s) A former singer in the “Dynamos”. Rich, sophisticated, acerbic, funny, and witty. Supporting Principal role.

Rosie - (late 30s-early 50s) Also a former singer in the “Dynamos” who now writes for and runs a feminist press. She’s confident, strong, and funny on the outside but shy underneath. Kooky and fun, good comic actress, bit of a clown. Actress who sings. Supporting Principal role.

Lisa - (18-25) Sophie’s friend who arrives to be a bridesmaid. Very energetic and kooky. Should be African-American, Hispanic-American, Asian-American, Native American or any non-Caucasian young woman. Should sing and dance well. Featured Ensemble role.

Ali - (18-25) Sophie’s friend. Impulsive and fun. Should contrast to Lisa and Sophie. Featured Ensemble role.

Sam - (35-50) May be Sophie’s father. Left Donna 20 years ago because he was engaged to another woman. Charming, successful architect. Actor who sings. Baritone. Supporting Principal role.

Harry - (35-50) May be Sophie’s father. British financier, wealthy, buttoned-up, and conservative but trying to reconnect with his freer, youthful self. Must do a very convincing English accent. Also an actor who sings. High baritone, tenor. Supporting Principal role.
Bill - (35-50) May be Sophie’s father. A travel writer with no possessions or strings. Good-natured, always ready for adventure. Funny, preferably a big or imposing man. Supporting Principal role.

Sky - (late 20s) Sophie’s fiancé. Athletic, attractive – has given up his life as a successful young businessman in order to make over Donna’s taverna and marry Sophie. Featured Ensemble role.

Pepper - (20s) Sky’s friend. Helps run the hotel. Charming, loves women, always flirting. Must be a good mover/dancer. Acrobatic skills a plus. Baritone/tenor. Featured Ensemble role.

Eddie - (20s) Another friend of Sky and hotel worker. Laid-back, easygoing. Also a mover/dancer role. Baritone/tenor. Featured Ensemble role.

Female Ensemble - (20-30’s) Females with great pop voices, comedic skills and move well to be in the ensemble and understudy the Dynamos (DONNA, ROSIE, TANYA). Ensemble roles.

Male Ensemble - (20-30’s) Males with great pop voices, comedic skills and move well to be in the ensemble and understudy the Dads (SAM, BILL, HARRY.) Ensemble roles.

Character Descriptions for The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Claude Frollo - Archdeacon of Notre Dame Cathedral and the most powerful cleric in Paris, reluctant caretaker of Quasimodo. Calculating, manipulative, and obsessive. (Male, Age: 40 to 50, vocal range top: D4, vocal range bottom: E2)

Jehan Frollo - Wild, passionate, and strong-willed. ( Male, Age: 20 to 30, vocal range top: Eb4, vocal range bottom: F3)

Florika - A gypsy and Quasimodo’s mother. (Female, Age: 20 to 30, vocal range top: F#5, vocal range bottom: E4)

Father Dupin - A priest of Notre Dame and Claude and Jehan’s guardian. (Male, Age: 40 to 60, vocal range top: A3, vocal range bottom: C3)

Quasimodo - The deformed bell-ringer of Notre Dame and Claude Frollo’s charge. Possesses a vivid imagination that brings to life the bells and gargoyles of the cathedral. Big-hearted, and brave when need be. (Male, Age: 20 to 30, vocal range top: Bb4, vocal range bottom: Bb2)

Clopin Trouillefou - The clever and charismatic King of the Gypsies. As the master of ceremonies for the Feast of Fools, he is witty and playful, but he boasts a darker, serious nature. (Male, Age: 30 to 40, vocal range top: F#5, vocal range bottom: D3)

Captain Phoebus de Martin - Captain of the Cathedral Guard. Overconfident yet charming, this handsome, strong soldier makes the ladies swoon. (Male, Age: 25 to 40, vocal range top: Ab4, vocal range bottom: A2)

Lieutenant Frederic Charlus - Lieutenant of the Cathedral Guard and loyal friend to Phoebus. (Male, Age: 20 to 30)

Esmeralda - A beautiful and free-spirited gypsy who possesses the strong sense of justice and morality Compassionate. (Female, Age: 20 to 30, vocal range top: D5, vocal range bottom: E3)

King Louis XI - King of France, nicknamed the Prudent. (Male, Age: 40 to 50)

Tribunal - A judicial officer. (Male, Age: 20 to 50, vocal range top: E4, vocal range bottom: G2)

Madam - Owner of a brothel and safe haven for gypsies. (Female, Age: 35 to 50)

Saint Aphrodisius - A stained-glass image that comes to life. (Male, Age: 30 to 50, vocal range top: E4, vocal range bottom: B3)

Congregation - Gypsies, gargoyles, soldiers, and citizens of Paris. (Females & Males)
