PRODUCTION TEAM:
Director/Choreographer – Kevin Burns
Music Director – Samantha Free
Stage Manager – Kate Otto
PLOT:
Anything Goes is set aboard the ocean liner S. S. American, where nightclub singer/evangelist Reno Sweeney is en route from New York to England. Her pal Billy Crocker has stowed away to be near his love, Hope Harcourt, but the problem is Hope is engaged to the wealthy Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Joining this love triangle on board the luxury liner are Public Enemy #13, Moonface Martin and his sidekick-in-crime Erma. With the help of some elaborate disguises, tap-dancing sailors and good old-fashioned blackmail, Reno and Martin join forces to help Billy in his quest to win Hope’s heart.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
This high-energy production requires a versatile cast of strong actors, singers, and dancers who can bring the humor, romance, and excitement of Cole Porter’s timeless classic to life. Tap experience is a plus for many roles.
Reno Sweeney – Mezzo (G3–E5)
A charismatic, confident evangelist turned nightclub singer with a quick wit and powerhouse vocals. A true triple threat with strong comedic timing, superb dance skills, and the ability to demand the attention of any room with her presence. Exceptional tap skills a must.
Billy Crocker – Baritone/Tenor (B2–G4)
A charming and ambitious Wall Street broker who stows away on the S.S. American to pursue his love, Hope Harcourt. He is quick-witted, romantic, and a bit mischievous. Strong dance required – ballroom and tap skills a must.
Moonface Martin – Baritone (Bb2–G4)
A lovable but bumbling gangster, disguised as a minister. A comedic scene-stealer with great physical comedy skills. Strong movement skills preferred.
Hope Harcourt – Soprano (A3–Bb5)
A beautiful young debutante who is engaged to Lord Evelyn but secretly loves Billy. Elegant and refined yet she desires more than is planned for her. Strong dance required.
Lord Evelyn Oakleigh – Baritone/Tenor (C3–G4)
A wealthy, eccentric Englishman who is engaged to Hope. He is proper, well-meaning, and delightfully clueless. Strong movement skills preferred.
Erma – Mezzo-Soprano (C4–C5)
A brassy, flirtatious gangster’s moll with a ‘Joisey’ accent. A scene-stealer with strong comedic timing and an irresistible personality. Strong movement required.
Elisha J. Whitney – Baritone (C3–D4)
Billy’s gruff and blustery boss, a Yale man with a fondness for whiskey.
Evangeline Harcourt – Mezzo
Hope’s comedically overbearing mother who truly wants the best for her daughter and herself. She will go to whatever lengths necessary to make sure she doesn’t wind up poor.
Reno’s Angels – Mezzo-Soprano/Soprano
Charity, Chastity, Purity and Virtue are Reno’s backup singers/dancers. They are glamorous and sassy showgirls. They must be very comfortable with their magnetism. The collective feel of the Angels is that they charge the atmosphere. Excellent tap, MT jazz and ballroom skills required.
Spit and Dippy – Baritone
Two rascally New York City street toughs with a talent for gambling and picking pockets.
The Captain and The Purser – Tenor/Baritone
Officials aboard the S.S. American. Straight-laced but can be comedic.
Ensemble – All Vocal Ranges
Seeking a lively ensemble of triple threat performers to play various featured roles including sailors, tourists, travelers, reporters, FBI agents, and ship staff.
