CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
GEORGE (27, Male-identifying; to play Chinese-Caucasian). A charming, battle-injured Afghan vet, and proud of his scars. He's in a frenzy to finish his student film -a modern homage to Hamlet- using his friends in his acting troupe. When his long-lost father shows up, the script becomes reality, and George is cocksure that the betrayals his father committed against his late mother justify violence.
LILLY (26, Female-identifying; to play Chinese-Caucasian). Girlfriend to George. An attractive, bold woman who has chosen to act in George's short film to foster his creative talents and calm him down. She's no shrinking violet, and her over-concern for him often makes her question her self-respect and love.
PAT (27, Male-identifying; Caucasian). George's best friend since befriending him on the battlefields of Afghanistan. An actor in George's movie, Pat walks with a cane, not because of injury, but due to his bohemian attitude and style - a modern-day Ezra Pound. His facetious banter is a cover. Underneath it all, he's very protective of his army buddy and will do anything to protect him. He finds himself falling in love with George's sister, Grace.
ROSE (18, Female-identifying; to play Chinese-Caucasian). George's baby sister, barely coming of age. She's a senior in high school, and is rehearsing for her brother's movie despite it being a school night. Grace's poise and innocence are endearing to Pat, but she's mostly oblivious to his crush. She is deeply affected by the events of the evening. Seeking actors with dance / movement background.
AMY (45, Female-identifying; to play Chinese). She is the aunt to Grace and George, and the sister to their late mother. Like their mother she is a Chinese immigrant, that holds a green card. She has claimed a proprietary interest in carrying on the desires of her sister in bringing up and guiding Grace. She holds a secret in her heart that hides the scars of desire and betrayal. Seeking actors that have strong dialect experience. Fluency in Chinese is a plus, but not necessary for the casting of this role.
CHUCK (55, Male-identifying; Caucasian). Father to Grace and George, who walks with a cane due to a limp. After a 15-year absence, he has suddenly returned to claim ownership of the house he helped buy for their mother. He's an actor and, years before, took out an equity loan to buy a community theater in Oakland. His reappearance has compromised his son's sense of control and put their late mother's will in jeopardy.
As an independent Casting Director, Allen Lucky Weaver, commits to be inclusive and seeks to cast a diverse group of actors within the needs of each production. Lucky encourages performers of all ethnicities, races, gender identities, ages, and body types, as well as performers with disabilities, to audition.
