Last week Sufjan Stevens' March Festival gig at The Civic sold out, with fans of the indie star taking to social media trying to score tickets.

Nanogirl's (aka Michelle Dickinson) Science Show: Big Bang, Little Bang! on Sunday 13th March has also sold out, with an additional show announced today to cope with demand; schools have snapped up all available tickets for a student's-only show the following day.

Likewise, the allure of international cabaret star Meow Meow's Little Mermaid has proven irresistible, with several performances already booked out and remaining tickets selling fast.

Auckland Arts Festival chief executive, David Inns, says the public's hunger for Festival tickets has extended to other shows.

He says The James Plays, Carabosse's Fire Garden at the Auckland Domain, and Dust to Dusky are also in high demand.

"In a busy Auckland summer entertainment market, the Auckland Arts Festival is clearly offering the public what it wants," says Mr Inns.

He says that since the Festival went annual this year, audience participation has gone from strength to strength, with ticket sales tracking higher than for the 2015 event.
