London Production of Dickens' GREAT EXPECTATIONS Comes to River Street Theatre

By:

Acclaimed London stage production of Dickens' GREAT EXPECTATIONS comes to Jaffrey TheatreRST Stage2Screen Series presents HD filmed play this weekend.

JAFFREY, New Hampshire (May 16, 2017) Jaffrey's River Street Theatre, a project of The Park Theatre, will present the highly acclaimed and awarded London production of Charles Dickens' famed novel, GREAT EXPECTATIONS as part of their Stage2Screen Series this Thursday through Saturday, May 18 - 20.

For the very first time, the Dickens classic GREAT EXPECTATIONS was staged in London's West End, and audiences around the world were able to share the historic opening night experience. Although Great Expectations has been adapted for film on two separate occasions, once by David Lean in 1946 and most recently by Mike Newell, it has never been produced for The West End or Broadway, widely believed to be too difficult to translate to stage. However, this Jo Clifford adaptation has been universally acclaimed as a triumph on its sellout tour of the UK head of its West End debut. The live HD broadcast took place on Thursday, February 7, 2013 and includes red carpet activities, audience arrivals and behind the scenes footage. The event formed part of the global celebrations surrounding the 200th Anniversary of the Dickens' birth.

Educational material for students and teachers (developed by the London stage production team) is available from the River Street Theatre in advance of the shows.

There will be four presentations of GREAT EXPECTATIONS: Thursday and Friday, May 18 & 19 at 7pm each evening plus Saturday, May 20, a matinee at 1:30pm and an evening showing at 7pm. Tickets for GREAT EXPECTATIONS screenings are $20 each (students and teachers with ID, $15). Due to the intimate size of the River Street Theatre, it is highly recommended that tickets are purchased in advance. Call the Box Office at 603-532-8888 or go to www.theparktheatre.org to purchase tickets with any major credit card.

The River Street Theatre is located in downtown Jaffrey, New Hampshire at 6 River Street. The River Street Theatre is sponsored by: Grove Street Fiduciary, Coca-Cola, the Board of Trustees of the Park Theatre, Janet S. Grant, Betty Locke, Owen Houghton and the James F. & Fernande Kelly Charitable Trust.
