Jones Theatrical Productions invites Nashville audiences to experience the powerful, funny, heartbreaking, and unforgettable play Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead (Revised Edition), appearing June 12–14, 2026, at the Centennial Black Box Theatre.
Inspired by the beloved characters many grew up with, Dog Sees God imagines what happens when childhood innocence collides with the complicated realities of adolescence. Following the death of his beloved dog, CB begins questioning everything he once believed about friendship, identity, love, and belonging. What follows is a raw, honest, and surprisingly humorous journey through the challenges of growing up.
The revised edition, presented with permission from acclaimed playwright Bert V. Royal, explores themes of acceptance, mental health, bullying, sexuality, and the universal search for connection. Though deeply emotional, the play is filled with sharp wit and moments of genuine hope that resonate long after the final curtain.
“This isn’t just a play for theatre lovers,” says director Clint Randolph. “It’s a story for anyone who remembers what it felt like to be a teenager trying to figure out where they fit in. The characters are flawed, funny, vulnerable, and incredibly human.”
Produced by Jones Theatrical Productions, the production also serves as part of Randolph’s graduate thesis work in theatre education, highlighting the power of theatre to foster empathy, conversation, and understanding.
Audiences can expect an intimate theatrical experience that is both entertaining and thought-provoking.
