Boiler Room Theatre Presents NINE, 6/18 - 7/10

The Boiler Room Theatre (BRT), Williamson County's resident professional theatre company, continues its 10th season with NINE - The Musical opening June 18 at the theatre, located in the historic Factory at Franklin, 230 Franklin Rd., Building Six, in Franklin, Tenn. for a run through July 10.

NINE stars Ciarán McCarthy as Guido Contini and Corrie Miller as Luisa Contini. The large cast also includes Jessica Heim, Ashley McCarthy, Valerie Navarre, Kay Ayers, Jama Bowen, Stephanie Jones-Benton, Nancy Whitehead, Taylor Green, Mary Bea Johnson, Kree Woods, Anna Pizzi Cage, Christina Candilora, Caroline Simpson, Shea Fowler, and Elizabeth Ard. Musical direction is by Jamey Green, choreography by Lauri Gregoire, and costumes by Melissa Cannon. Neely Green serves as the show's producer.

Performances are held on Tuesday, Thursday (July 1 and 8 only), Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m., with discount Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. on June 20 and 27. Ticket prices are $25 for adults, $23 for seniors (age 60 and up) and students (age 13 through college with valid ID), and $19 for children ages 3 through 12 (parental guidance suggested). Matinee prices are $2 less respectively. All Tuesday shows are two- for-one ($25 for two tickets; no other discounts apply). NINE is a musical with a book by Arthur Kopit, music and lyrics by Maury Yeston. The story is based on Federico Fellini's semi-autobiographical film 8½. It focuses on film director Guido Contini, savoring his most recent (and greatest) success but dreading his imminent 40th birthday and a midlife crisis blocking his creative impulses and entangling him in a web of romantic difficulties in early-1960s Venice.

The original Broadway production opened in 1982 and ran for 729 performances, starring Raul Julia. The musical won five Tony Awards, including best musical, and has enjoyed a number of revivals. The film version of the musical, directed by Rob Marshall who previously directed the wildly successful Chicago, was released in the U.S. on December 18, 2009 in New York and Los Angeles and opened for wide release on December 25, 2009.
