Governor General Michaëlle Jean & Jean-Daniel Lafond Host ART MATTERS Forum at Glenbow Museum in Calgary

The High Performance Rodeo - Calgary's International Festival of the Arts, announces an official visit by Their Excellencies the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, and Mr. Jean-Daniel Lafond, the Honorary Patron of the festival. Their Excellencies will host an Art Matters forum Sunday, January 24, at 2:30 p.m. at the Glenbow Museum. The forum addresses the question: "What is the power and purpose of using the arts to engage in a social issue?"

"It is with great respect and pride that we have His Excellency as the Honorary Patron of the festival for the third year," says Michael Green, Curator of the High Performance Rodeo. "I am also very proud to present the topic of social cohesion as it is in line with the Governor General of Canada's mandate."

Now in its 24th year, the High Performance Rodeo is an annual festival featuring theatre, dance, comedy, music and multimedia presentations. Curated by Artistic Director Michael Green, it is dedicated to entertaining as wide an audience as imaginable, while remaining fertile ground for the progressive and wild. The High Performance Rodeo is the largest festival of its kind in Western Canada.
