Centaur Theatre Co Presents IN PIAZZA SAN DOMENICO, Runs 10/6-11/1

From the author of MAMBO ITALIANO, comes the world premiere of a light-hearted and hilarious comedy about love, lust and misunderstandings, inspired by Feydeau, Goldini and Sophia Loren.

It's a burning hot August in Naples, 1952 - "earthquake weather", and the citizens of Piazza San Domenico are all stirred up when Carmelina Benevento (Christina Broccolini) suddenly faints upon hearing some bad news about her fiancé, Guido (Guido Cocomello). A series of conspicuous sightings between people provoke gossip. Misinterpretations ensue as The Players contrive their own schemes and desperately try to keep face. But love and earth tremors have a way of setting things straight!

Playwright, Steve Galluccio is a three-time Gemini Award-winning writer whose career started in
Montreal's vibrant underground theatre scene. Galluccio burst into "legit" theatre in 2000 with his
breakthrough work, MAMBO ITALIANO which was translated into French by Michel Tremblay. An
astounding hit in both French and English, the play has toured Québec in French (Compagnie Jean
Duceppe), and was seen by over 100,000 theatregoers in its English language production at Centaur. The production went on to great success is Toronto presented by the Mirvishes. MAMBO ITALIANO was also produced all over North America and Europe. The movie adaptation of MAMBO ITALIANO (2003) was sold to over 50 countries (including the U.S.), grossed more than 12 million dollars worldwide. Galluccio also wrote the Gemini-award winning television series "Ciao Bella" which aired on both Radio Canada and CBC. Ciao Bella was broadcast in Italy, Africa, the Middle-East, and the United States. Galluccio's last film project, released in 2007, "Surviving My Mother" won the Audience Award at the Montreal World Film Festival for Favourite Canadian Feature. Shooting on Galluccio's next feature film, "Funkytown" has just wrapped.

Directed by Centaur's Artistic and Executive Director, Roy Surette, with the assistance of Adam
Blanshey, the world premiere will star Andreas Apergis, Ellen David and Michel Perron whom audiences will remember from MAMBO ITALIANO; Guido Cocomello who featured in Vittorio Rossi's A CARPENTER'S TRILOGY; and Carl Alacchi, Christina Broccolini, Mara Lalli and Jocelyne Zucco, all in their Centaur debut. The amazing creative team includes Set Design by John Dinning, Costume Design by James Lavoie and Lighting Design by Luc Prairie. The team is supported by stage manager Luciana Burcheri and Assistant Stage Manager Sarah-Marie Langlois.

Performances will run October 6 to November 1.  For more information or to order tickets, call the box office at 514-288-3161 or visit Centaur Theatre Comapny's website at www.centaurtheatre.com.
