The Ordway to Welcome Mongolian Folk-Rock Fusion Group Hanggai

The Ordway Center for the Performing Arts will welcome Hanggai for a one-night-only performance on Thursday, April 7, at 7:30 p.m. The show, which will take place in the Concert Hall, is a part of the Ordway's World Music and Dance Series, sponsored by Target. Founded by Beijing-based rocker, Ilchi, the band Hanggai taps deeply into the roots of Mongolian folk music and blends it with contemporary styles like rock, punk and pop. Their music is sung in Mongolian and features traditional instruments from the country alongside Western drum sets and electric guitars. Many of their songs also use the vocal technique of two-tone throat singing, which is achieved by artists who can produce two or more music notes at the same time. Hanggai have performed at festivals and venues around the world, including engagements at the Lincoln Center Festival in New York City and Bonnaroo in Tennessee.

"Their work strives to introduce and reconnect people to Mongolian culture, fusing it with contemporary styles for new generations to enjoy.
