Renaissance Theaterworks Presents THE UNDERSTUDY, 1/17-2/9

Renaissance Theaterworks (RTW) presents the 2nd show of its 21st season THE UNDERSTUDY a backstage comedy about artists pursuing what they love despite the odds against them. A first professional directorial debut for Mallory Metoxen, featuring Cassandra Bissell, Philip Sletteland and Ken T. Williams. Opening night is Saturday, January 18th at 8:00 pm. Running January 17 through February 09, 2014 at the Studio Theatre, 158 N. Skylight Music Theatre to Present EL CIMARRON, 1/3-12

Skylight Music Theatre announces the details of the first Studio show under new Artistic Director, Viswa Subbaraman. Hans Werner Henze's thought-provoking El Cimarron will run January 3 through January 12 in the Studio Theatre at the Broadway Theatre Center (158 N. Broadway, Milwaukee WI).

Milwaukee Repertory Theater continues its 2013/14 Season with a celebrated production of Peter Quilter's End of the Rainbow, a new play with music. The recipient of rave reviews in London, Broadway and L.A. including four Olivier Award nominations and three Tony Award nominations, End of the Rainbow stars 12-time Jeff Award-winning Chicago actress Hollis Resnik as Judy Garland. Resnik will be the first American-born actress to play the role. Joining her are Thomas J. Cox (Anthony), Nicholas Harazin (Mickey) and Rep Associate Artist Jonathan Gillard Daly (Various). Directed by Rep Artistic Director Mark Clements, End of the Rainbow was featured in Time Magazine's "Top Ten" List and called "electrifying" by The New York Times.

A joyous, toe-tapping, and moving theatrical concert event which celebrates the colorful life and rich musical legacy of America's greatest troubadour, Woody Sez: The Life and Music of Woody Guthrie features more than 25 songs including classics like "This Land is Your Land," "Pastures of Plenty" and "The Ballad of Tom Joad." The original folk hero, Woody Guthrie, and his infectious melodies defined an American era of political expression and transformed the folk ballad into a vehicle of social commentary and unity. The Rep is excited to kick off 2014 with a musical salute to this music icon in this award-winning production.

To capture the long standing tradition of The Milwaukee Rep's adaptation of A Christmas Carol that opened last weekend at the Historic Pabst Theater, many families or friends crowd around the grand Christmas tree adorned and standing in the center of Milwaukee's Patty and Jay Baker Theater Complex. They punch the button on their smart phones; take pictures of these memories withstanding the test of time, an annual event to be cherished. The Rep's production of A Christmas Carol has run consecutively each December for 38 years, a holiday present waiting to be opened again and again.

On Tuesday, November 19 2013, the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) held its Annual Meeting to share results of its 2012-13 season and the organization's audited financial statements. The results of its highly successful international tour were shared, its Community Partnership Program evaluation research was disclosed, and 2013-14 board officers and directors were announced.

Called 'the funniest farce ever written' by the New York Post, Michael Frayn's uproarious play-within-a-play follows the on- and off-stage antics of the members of a mediocre touring company as they blunder from an ominously bad dress rehearsal to a spectacularly disastrous performance. The perfect show for the holiday season, Noises Off is a hysterical romp packed full of a side-splitting collection of forgotten cues, missed connections and backstage hilarity! Written by playwright Michael Frayn, Noises Off will be directed by KJ Sanchez, who returns to The Rep after directing last year's luminous production of The Diary of Anne Frank. The production features Rep Associate Artists Jonathan Gillard Daly, Laura Gordon, Gerard Neugent and Deborah Staples, frequent guest actor Kelley Faulkner, Chicago-based actors Aaron Christensen and Joe Dempsey and Rep Acting Interns Joe Boersma and Sara Zientek. Noises Off runs in The Rep's Quadracci Powerhouse from tonight, November 19 - December 22 and opens Friday, November 22.
