Florida Rep Announces Special Offers to see The Glass Menagerie

Florida Repertory Theatre announced a number of special offers for its 2008 World Classic Initiative production of Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie, including two special preview performances where all seats for the general public are $10, and 4 performances where Lee County School students can attend for free.

"It is a very important piece of American theatre, a true classic," says Producing Artistic Director, Robert Cacioppo. "We want as many people to see it as possible. This is a play about family, love, the South and hard times. It is true poetry and I know our audiences are going to love it. And with the $10 ticket prices, for these special previews, everyone should attend."

As with any other Florida Rep production, The Glass Menagerie is expected to be a fully professional and fully realized interpretation of the material. "Audiences will experience it as it was meant to be: on stage in the hands of professional actors, directors and designers. The script is just the blueprint," Cacioppo continued, "and it is our job in the theatre to bring that blueprint to life. Adults and young people alike should see this play. We must not lose touch with the classics."

As its 2008 World Classic Initiative production and Lee County Library's One Book One Community, Florida Rep's aim is to have as many people see the production as possible despite the limited engagement.

The play opens on Friday October 3rd, but will have two discounted preview performances October 1st and 2nd at 8pm where admission is free for students & Lee County school employees, and $10 for adults. Student admission throughout the run is $10, and free with the purchase of two full priced adult tickets ($38/$34.)

Florida Rep has also designated two student matinee performances on September 30th and October 9th at 10:15am. For more details about booking, please call Education Director, Rachael Endrizzi at 239-332-4665 x20.

The Glass Menagerie was Tennessee Williams first major critical success, and is an autobiographical portrait of one troubled family struggling to coexist despite inner turmoil in a Depression-wracked and changing America. It is the story of a mother trapped in the past, a son pining for his future and a disabled daughter caught in the middle.

In addition to the public performances and student matinee performances, there are 5 Behind the Scenes discussions scheduled at each of Lee County's libraries in the weeks leading up to the opening. Each of these events will feature the director and cast leading a discussion about the process of taking a play from the page to the stage.

Williams' masterwork, The Glass Menagerie, plays at Florida Rep October 3rd through 12th with a limited run of only 12 public performances. Performances are Tuesday through Saturday at 8pm and 2pm on Wednesdays, Sundays and selected Saturdays. There is also a 7pm twilight performance on October 5th.

Single ticket prices are $38, $34 and $20. Season subscriptions are now on sale through the box office, and subscribing is the most economical way to see Florida Rep's work. Packages are available that save up to 57% on single ticket prices.

Florida Repertory Theatre is located on Bay Street between Jackson and Hendry in the Historic Arcade Theatre in the Fort Myers River District. Subscriptions and single tickets are available through the Box Office at 239.332.4488. Visit Florida Rep online at www.floridarep.org.
