Four Seasons Theatre Presents THE SPITFIRE GRILL 12/3-18

By:

In December 2010, Four Seasons Theatre (FST), in partnership with Madison Theatre Guild, will present a 10th anniversary production of The Spitfire Grill, a musical with Wisconsin roots. Written by American Folklore Theatre's Fred Alley and James Valcq, THE SPITFIRE GRILL is the story of Percy, a feisty parolee who follows her dreams to a small town in Wisconsin. As the story unfolds, each resident of Gilead learns the true meaning of friends, family, and home.

About this Production: Our production is directed by Terry Kiss Frank and music directed by David Sytkowski. Cast members include Sarah O'Hara, Christine Callsen, Marja Barger, Leslie Cao, Jordan Peterson, David Neuser, and Tim Irvin.

Performances are Friday, December 3 through Saturday, December 18 with performances on
Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 pm. There is one matinee performance on Sunday, December 12 at 3:00 pm.

Tickets are $20 and are available online at the FST website at www.fourseasonstheatre.com. On the day of the show, tickets are available in person in the Bartell Lobby starting one hour prior to the performance.

About the Musical: Authors Fred Alley, a native of Mt. Horeb, and James Valcq, a native of Milwaukee, had been friends since high school music camp in 1980 and collaborated on their first
show, The Passage, for Alley's American Folklore Theatre in Wisconsin in 1994. After seeing the film 'The Spitfire Grill', the two began work on a new project in October 1999. The George Street
Playhouse in New Jersey presented a workshop of the piece in June 2000 and produced the world
premiere production in November 2000.

Ira Weitzman, Associate Producer, and Tim Sanford, Artistic Director, of Playwrights Horizons saw
the George Street production and announced that THE SPITFIRE GRILL would open the 2000-2001
season after a May workshop. Tragically, one week before the workshop, Fred Alley suffered a fatal
heart attack while jogging in the woods near his Wisconsin home. He died at the age of 38.

Two weeks later, The Spitfire Grill was presented with the Richard Rodgers Production Award from
the American Academy of Letters and Sciences. The Off Broadway production was nominated for
Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and Drama League Awards and THE SPITFIRE GRILL has since been produced regionally across the country.
