Nederlands Dans Theater is without a doubt one of the world’s most innovative contemporary dance companies, continuously blending classical and contemporary dance with rigorous elegance and enduring success. The dancers of Nederlands Dans Theater 1 are well known for their great class and virtuosity. They are at the top of their dance career and know as no other how to get the company’s repertoire across to the audience. Following the 50th Jubilee Tour presented in 2010 and NDT 2 in 2013, the Grand Théâtre is delighted to present NDT 1 in 2015 with a brandnew program.

Hans van Manen’s Kleines Requiem is a ballet for seven dancers set to music by the Polish composer Henryk Miko?aj Górecki. At its premiere in 1996 it was hailed as one of the highlights of the impressive œuvre of former artistic director Hans van Manen whose body of work counts more than 120 ballets, each carrying his unmistakable signature. Clarity in structure and a refined simplicity are the elements in his work which have earned him the name “the Mondrian of dance”.

Also featured in this programme is a new work by associate NDT choreographer Crystal Pite. The Canadian star has twelve awards to her name and her own company Kidd Pivot came to Luxembourg with Dark Matters in 2012. The strength of Pites work lies in a visual, ominous and mysterious wealth.

Completing the line-up is a new work by creative duo Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar, who have created a stream of critically acclaimed original works for some of the world’s leading dance companies, including Batsheva Dance Company. A true revelation of Israeli dance, they made their NDT debut last season with the ethereal Sara for NDT 2, performed on hypnotic electronic sounds. Now they create their first work for NDT 1.
