Walden Theatre Presents THE CRUCIBLE
Walden Theatre is pleased to present Arthur Miller's classic play The Crucible at the MeX Theatre at The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts. The play runs from January 21 - 30 and tickets are available now through the Kentucky Center box office, online at KentuckyCenter.org and by calling (502) 584-7777.
The story of a community swept up in a maelstrom of backstabbing, suspicion, and dreadful accusations, Miller's play is loosely based on the events of the Salem witch trials in Colonial America. But it's not just a history piece. Writing in the early 1950s, Arthur Miller was responding to McCarthyism and the blacklist, which sent the modern U.S. spasming through an all new, sensational-- though no less terrible--"witch-hunt." It is also a revealing, psychologically intense story of individuals determined to rein-in events before more damage is done.
Charlie Sexton most recently directed Of Mice and Men at Walden Theatre, where he is Artistic Director. Other recent directing credits include Comedy of Errors, Our Town, Holy Ghosts, The Winter's Tale, Misalliance, King Lear, Tartuffe, Measure for Measure, Summer and Smoke, Romeo and Juliet, Hedda Gabler, Picnic, Much Ado About Nothing, Twelfth Night, The Bungler, Hamlet, Charley's Aunt, The Tempest, and The Learned Ladies among many others. Charlie has been on staff at Walden Theatre since 1992 and was promoted to his current position in 1999. Since then, enrollment in the Conservatory Program has doubled and Walden's annual budget has tripled. Other achievements include developing Walden Theatre's annual Young American Shakespeare Festival (the first of its kind in the nation), a popular season of summer camps and enrichment activities, and professional opportunities for alumni.
Tickets are on sale to the public NOW, priced at a special $8 for opening night on January 21 and $10 matinee or $15 evening performances after that. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Kentucky Center's box office at (502) 584-7777 or online at KentuckyCenter.org. Please call the box office or visit our website for a detailed performance schedule.
