William Martinez's SIGNING THE SONG Comes to The Colony for Four Performances Image

The Colony Theatre in Burbank has announced a four-performance engagement of SIGNing the Song, written, performed, and directed by William Martinez, opening on November 1. Musical direction is by David Bawiec.

Through American Sign Language paired with singing, SIGNing the Song shares the true story of a boy who grew up in a deaf household with little exposure to TV, radio, or movies. Because of his incredible 8th grade music teacher and the love and support of his parents, he came out of his silent world and discovered his voice through music. ASL (American Sign Language) and song lyrics meld together into a beautiful unique art form. This immersive one-man show celebrates the extraordinary impact educators and parents have on each child's life ... regardless of their struggles.

William Martinez is currently touring the educational market with SIGNing the Song. He traveled across the nation with Thank You for The Music: A Modern Tribute to ABBA and worked as a lead male singer on Silversea Cruises performing opera, Broadway, pop, jazz, and other musical styles while also showcasing SIGNing the Song. His many stage credits include Ivy and Bean, Ordinary Days, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Parade, Little Mary Sunshine, No, No Nanette, Superman, Street Scene, Blood Brothers, High Fidelity, Titanic, The Secret Garden, Once Upon a Mattress, City of Angels, 110 in the Shade, Bells Are Ringing, Kismet, Big River, Oliver!, Back to Bacharach, Forever Plaid, Plaid Tidings, Sweeney Todd, and more.

David Bawiec is an award-winning composer and music producer. He has worked on a variety of projects spanning many genres, from TV and feature films to theatre and theme parks, commercials, mobile apps, and an entire array of pop music. He has worked on projects with Michael Bublé, Josh Groban, and John Wick, among others. Television credits include NCIS, Arrested Development, and The Academy Awards. Commercials: Energizer Batteries and Dr. Pepper. He holds a dual Bachelor of Music degree in Film Scoring and Contemporary Writing and Production from Berklee College of Music.

The running schedule for SIGNing the Song is Thursday 11/1 at 8pm, Saturday 11/3 at 3pm and 8pm, and Sunday 11/4 at 3pm. An ASL interpreter will be provided at the Thursday 11/1 performance. Admission is $35 and tickets may be purchased online at www.colonytheatre.org or by phone at (866) 811-4111. The Colony Theatre is located at 555 N. Third Street (between Cyprus and Magnolia) in Burbank, 91502. Ample free onsite parking is available.
