The Los Angeles Intimate Theatre Premiere of Sarah Ruhl's hysterical Pulitzer- and Tony-celebrated comedy IN THE NEXT ROOM or THE VIBRATOR PLAY directed by August Viverito opens TheProdCo's 7th Season tonight, August 24 at the Secret Rose Thetre, 11246 Magnolia Boulevard, North Hollywood.

At the dawn of the age of electricity in America, a new treatment is devised to save women of substance from suffering. "Hysteria" was the diagnosis, and the new electric vibrating apparatus became a woman's best friend in lieu of a husband who ...understands. A titillating, charming, hysterical, and truthful look at human sexuality and connection. Sarah Ruhl is as whimsical and clever as ever, as her script navigates Victorian Age society and characters just trying to relate to one another beyond shallow chitchat over tea. Ruhl uses the simple device of the vibrator to open up discussions of gender, intimacy, and love.

The cast includes the brilliant Joanna Strapp and Michael Oosterom as the pivotal Dr. and Mrs. Givings, Yael Berkovich and Michael Zemenick as the eccentric Daldrys, Candace Nicholas-Lippman as Elizabeth the wet nurse, Benjamin Gillman as playboy Leo, and Elizabeth Southard as the Dr's faithful assistant Annie. August Viverito directs, immeasurably assisted by T L Kolman who also produces. Lighting is by Matt Richter, costumes by Kelly Graham, and the set is by Viverito. Stage management is by Scott Fleming.

IN THE NEXT ROOM or THE VIBRATOR PLAY will run Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM and Sundays at 3 PM, August 24 through September 28, 2013 at The Secret Rose Theatre in the heart of the NoHo Arts District. 11246 Magnolia Boulevard (1 block west of Lankershim). Tickets are $30, general admission at www.theprodco.com or 1-800-838-3006.
