Spider Baby The Musical Plays The Lyric Hyperion Theatre Cafe Thru 12/5

By:

AFS Entertainment presents the world premiere of SPIDER BABY THE MUSICAL at The Lyric Hyperion Theatre Cafe (2106 Hyperion Ave.) now through December 5, 2010. Based on Jack Hill's (Coffy and Foxy Brown) classic horror film Spider Baby: The Maddest Story Ever Told, the new rock musical features book and music by Enrique Acosta, lyrics by Enrique Acosta, Lorien Patton and Helen Acosta, and direction by Helen Acosta.

"I first thought it was an impossible idea to transfer Spider Baby from film to stage, but Enrique proved me wrong. I'm quite delighted with his adaptation of my screenplay and the way the musical's book has developed over time," said cult film legend screenwriter/director Jack Hill. "Enrique is also a very talented songwriter and I'm thrilled with what he and the music team have created."

SPIDER BABY THE MUSICAL tells the story of the Merrye family. Each member of the family suffers from the same degenerative mental disorder, which causes the loss of impulse control. When distant relatives learn of the family's condition, they attempt to institutionalize the Merrye children and sell their land. SPIDER BABY THE MUSICAL deals with the extreme measures the Merrye family takes to stay together.

The cast of SPIDER BABY THE MUSICAL includes Enrique Acosta (the Los Angeles Premiere of A Song For Vanya) as Bruno, Jesse Seann Atkinson (Starz' Party Down) as Peter Howe, David Clark (Pirates of Penzance) as Schlocker, Dominique Cox (The Infamous Exploits of Jack West) as Elizabeth, Bianca Gisselle (Highways' Mediations: Eva Hese) as Virginia, Katherine Goldman (Company) as Ann Morse, Jose L. Hernandez (She Loves Me) as Ralph and Tanya Wilkins (Into the Woods) as Emily.

Presented by AFS Entertainment, SPIDER BABY THE MUSICAL is based on Jack Hill's 1964 cult horror film entitled Spider Baby: The Maddest Story Ever Told. SPIDER BABY THE MUSICAL had its original workshop at Empty Space Theatre in Bakersfield in 2004. The production has gone through several developmental workshops and has been an entry in the San Francisco Fringe Festival and Toronto Fringe Festival. The Las Vegas Review Journal described SPIDER BABY THE MUSICAL as, "The Addams Family on acid," and the Toronto's Mooney on Theatre said, "If you love Rocky Horror, go see SPIDER BABY THE MUSICAL."

SPIDER BABY THE MUSICAL, which opened on October 15, 2010, will play through December 5 at The Lyric Hyperion Theatre Cafe, 2106 Hyperion Ave. in Silver Lake. Performance schedule is Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday nights at 7:00 p.m. Tickets range from $20.00 - $25.00. Tickets are available by calling 800-838-3006 or online at BrownPaperTickets.com. There is a FREE parking lot at the theatre and ample street parking. SPIDER BABY THE MUSICAL is recommended for mature audiences. For additional information visit www.SpiderBabyTheMusical.com.
