Shakespearean Vaudeville to Premiere at Shakespeare Orange County on 7/10

By:

In honor of the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death, Shakespeare Orange County (SOC) commissioned a new piece by Southern California playwright Allison Volk. The play, called Sonnets, Songs & Sorry, Will's Been Dead 400 Years! is a rollicking "Shakespearean vaudeville" that will enjoy a world premiere on Sunday, July 10th at 7 pm.

A fresh alternative to The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), Sonnets is a comedic romp that compliments the theater's main stage production of Hamlet which stars David Denman (The Office, Parenthood, 13 Hours).

The show uses modern language as well as Shakespeare's most famous sonnets to explore what life looks like backstage for the SOC company members when they find out that a direct descendant of William Shakespeare is coming to see their performance of Hamlet.Mistaken identities, unrequited love and many jokes ensue during the 90-minute performance.

The play is directed by SOC veteran Colin Martin and stars Nicholas Thurkettle, Sonja Inge, PatRick Peterson, Ben Horowitz and Allison Volk. The principal cast is supported by an ensemble of acting conservatory students from the Orange County High School of Performing Arts.

If you go: Sonnets, Songs & Sorry, Will's Been Dead 400 Years! plays Sundays at 7 pm through August 7th at the Garden Grove Amphitheater, 12852 Main Street, Garden Grove, CA 92840. Tickets are $10-$40.
