SHORT PLAYS FOR ALL YOUR PROBLEMS! Set for Hollywood Fringe, Now thru 6/29

By:

Acclaimed playwright is looking to change your perception of the "short play" or at least define it once and for all!

"To some, the short play is a play, but only shorter. To others, a sketch, but only longer. There are those who believe anything shorter than an hour is a short play, or perhaps it's defined by its number of acts. Some call the short play a one-act. Some call it a ten-minute play, and some even call the ten-minute play a one-act. As for rest of the world, they have no idea what we're talking about. Well, that's about to change."

Kozak is excited to present Short Plays For All Your Problems!, a collection of his original short plays, at The Complex (Ruby Theater) as a part of the 2014 Hollywood Fringe Festival. This is the first time Kozak, who has premiered both of his award-winning features, The Birthday Boys (2010) and Round Rock (2012) at the Fringe, is producing original short works and he's pulled from a pool of Fringe veterans to act out his pieces that straddle the line of poignant and hysterically absurd.

At its core, Short Plays For All Your Problems! is a twisted and hilarious compilation that offers a unique and unhinged perspective on the cosmos and humanity's many, many terrible problems.

"This is basically my love letter to Christopher Durang," Kozak said. "When I first started playwriting, I realized that I would need to write some full-lengths to get anywhere, but periodically I would bang out a quick short just for fun, which led to a pretty massive catalogue. When I finally decided to mount a handful of them myself, I could think of no better premiere spot than the Hollywood Fringe Festival. It's an amazing ritual to come together each year to see what your friends have been working on, and I always look forward to it. It's really more like a big party, and that is the exact atmosphere I want for this show...there will probably be cake at some point."

And hopefully, a clearer understanding for all of us, of what we mean when we talk about the "short play.
