The Ruskin Group Theatre is proud to announce the 9th season of their LA Café Plays - dubbed the "Fastest Theater in Town" because five short plays go from conception to execution in just 10 1/2 hours.
This event will be staged every 3rd Sunday in 2011 at 7:30 pm and again at 9 pm at Ruskin Group Theatre, 3000 Airport Drive in the Santa Monica Airport. The Café Plays have won praise from audiences and the press alike. Several pieces created during performances have gone on to be produced as full length plays. The Los Angeles Times expressed that "audiences revel in the 10 1/2-hour creation cycle of five one-act plays, bound by a common theme and locale - all must take place in a café - but otherwise are as diverse as the minds from which they spring." The article also noted that "In the adrenalin-addled world of L.A. Café Plays, playwrights write hyper-fast, actors and directors rehearse hyper-fast, and even the programs are printed hyper-fast." The LA Cafe Plays regularly feature celebrities. RUSKIN GROUP THEATRE has been making an impact on the Los Angeles theatrical scene with an eclectic mix of thought provoking plays and programs. Their 'Fostering Imagination' program sponsors foster kids in theatre & film classes that produce several original shows each year. Recently celebrating their anniversary, RGT supporters Ed Asner, Dylan McDermott, Chris Mulkey, Olivia d'Abo, and other industry celebrities joined to produce the Best of LA Café Plays (both shows sold out within hours). Anthony Hopkins and Anthony Franciosa were some of the Ruskin School of Theatre's first teachers.Videos
