Palos Verdes Performing Arts Opens 36th Season With Michael Feinstein

Palos Verdes Performing Arts kicks off their 2018-19 season at the Norris Theatre, on Saturday, September 22 with Michael Feinstein, who has been dubbed the "Ambassador of the Great American Songbook." The season is filled with a diverse line-up of professional shows that includes Broadway musicals, plays, dance, and concerts ranging from classic rock, to country.

Singer and pianist Michael Feinstein has built his career over the last three decades bringing the music of the Great American Songbook to the world. From recordings that have earned him five Grammy Award nominations to his Emmy nominated PBS-TV specials, acclaimed NPR series and concerts spanning the globe - appearing at the White House, Buckingham Palace, Hollywood Bowl, Carnegie Hall and Sydney Opera House - Feinstein has become an all star force in American music. His Norris Theatre concert will showcase the greatest popular standards of the century through song and story.

The "Produced Series" kicks off on October 5 with the beloved musical, "South Pacific," in a special concert performance, followed by the ever-popular '50s jukebox musical, "Forever Plaid," November 16-18. The series also includes the West Coast premier of the riveting swashbuckling play, "The Three Musketeers," January 25 - February 3; and the eight-time Tony-winning musical comedy smash hit, "Hairspray," April 26-May 12.

The "Presents Series" is known for bringing an exciting spectrum of quality entertainment to the Norris Theatre, and this season is no exception. "The Ultimate Queen Celebration" will rock the house on November 9 with a high-energy tribute to the group. Additional highlights include: "Tribute to Glenn Miller" featuring the Tex Beneke Orchestra (December 9); the award-winning contemporary a capella group Backtrack (January 11); Gentri: The Gentlemen Trio, with their special blend of "cinematic pop" (March 9); the unique shadow-illusion dance artistry of Cataput! from "America's Got Talent" (March 17); "Kenny Cetera's Chicago Tribute," led by the brother of former Chicago front man Peter Cetera (March 23); "The Purple Experience," honoring music icon, Prince (November 11); and "One Night in Memphis," - a tribute to Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley and Carl Perkins (June 2).

The newest series, "South Bay Live," continues to offer the ultimate in live, up-close concert experiences, beginning with "Hilltop Hoedown," a daylong country music fest on October 20, featuring the CMA winning band, Lonestar, multi-platinum selling artist Jerrod Niemann and rising country artist, Hannah Ellis. Kicking off the new year, on January 19, The Artimus Pyle Band celebrates Lynrd Skynrd and his legendary band. Led by Skynyrd's wild man drummer, Artimus Pyle, the concert will include such massive hits as "Sweet Home Alabama." Additional "South Bay Live" concerts will be added throughout the season.

Offering an elegant supper-club experience, the "Cabaret Jazz Series" returns for its 19th season with a new lineup featuring four of the top jazz ensembles in the country. PVPA's resident Chamber Orchestra of the South Bay will present five classical concerts beginning in October.
