In his Walt Disney Concert Hall debut, conductor, organist, composer and arranger Martin Neary brings a program that combines the traditional with the unconventional to the Walt Disney Concert Hall on Sunday, November 14, 2010. As part of the 2010/11 Organ Recital Series, the evening features works by Purcell, Bach, Harvey, Mendelssohn, Liszt and Tavener - all of the composers who have inspired Neary's musical life. Joining Neary are west coast-based Millennium Consort Singers - marking the first time the organ series includes a chorus - and organist Edward Murray.
Martin Neary was Organist and Master of the Choristers at Winchester Cathedral (1972-1987) and at Westminster Abbey (1988-1998). Among his awards are a Grammy nomination for his recording of Purcell's Music for Queen Mary and an appointment as Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order by the Queen of England in appreciation of his services at the Funeral of Princess Diana.PROGRAM: Purcell: I was glad Purcell: Jehovah, quam multi sunt hostes mei Bach: Toccata and Fugue in D minor (Dorian), BWV 538 Harvey: I love the Lord Harvey: Come, Holy Ghost Mendelssohn: Organ Sonata No. 1, Op. 65, No. 1 Liszt: Prelude and Fugue on B-A-C-H Tavener: God is with us Tavener: The Lamb Tavener: Song for Athene Britten: Rejoice in the LambFor more information and complete artist biographies, please visit: www.laphil.comWHEN: Sunday, November 14 at 7:30 PMWHERE: Walt Disney CONCERT HALL 111 S.
