Harry Potter Play NINETEEN YEARS LATER Comes to The El Portal This Winter

The sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is rapidly approaching, and if are a Los Angeles Harry Potter fan, you may just get an extra dose of the Wizarding World this winter.

Nineteen Years Later - a new Harry Potter stage-show written and directed by Kena Worthen - first premiered at the Hollywood Fringe Festival earlier this year, where it played to a completely sold out audiences, and then again in the summer after winning the festival's "Encore" award. The show serves as a reimagining of the Tony-Award winning show Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and functions more as a character study of the post-Voldemort Potters than as a spectacle of grandeur and magic.

The play follows Albus Severus Potter (played by Boris Bilic), son of Harry (played by Louie Chapman), as he struggles to live up to the expectations of The Boy Who Lived nineteen years after the death of He Who Must Not Be Named. Unequipped and isolated, Albus finds himself at the center of a new conflict, in which famous witches and wizards start to disappear at an alarming rate. The show partnered with J.K. Rowling's charity, Lumos, whose mission, according to its website, is "to end the use of orphanages and institutions for vulnerable children around the world by 2050."

Many fan favorites appear, including Hermione Granger (Michelle Grey), Ron Weasley (Carey Matthews), Draco Malfoy (Kyle Maraglio) and Neville Longbottom (Daniel Marapittas), as well as a few new characters, like Scorpius Malfoy (Conner Stevens), son of Draco, and an American exchange student to Hogwarts, Cecilia Sinclaire (Audi Finn).

In addition to a cast of familiar faces, the show boasts full fight-choreography with spells, wands that light up, as well as all the sounds and iconic music from the films.

Formerly set in the Hobgoblin Theatre and Studio/Stage Theatre for its Fringe-run, Nineteen Years Later is getting a remount at the historic 360-seat El Portal Theatre, on the Debbie Reynolds Mainstage.

On the transition to such a large and iconic Los Angeles Theatre, Boris Bilic, playing Albus Potter, say it's "exciting".

"Kena is a really smart director and was able to make a really intimate and beautiful Harry Potter character piece in our little theatre, and I'm really happy she could. I know we'll be in good hands, because when we add all the added production that comes with acting at such an extraordinary theatre as the El Portal, we'll still be able to keep the heart of the show: the characters and their relationships."And for those still looking for that extra bit of Harry Potter fun, trivia is held in the lobby at intermission with prizes for the most knowledgeable witches and wizards in attendance.
