Miro Quartet, Cellist Clive Greensmith Perform Schubert's Immortal Cello Quintet Feb. 9

Recognized internationally as a leading string quartet of its generation, the Miro Quartet returns to the Chamber Music Society of Detroit stage on Saturday, February 9 2019 with Montrose Trio cellist Clive Greensmith. The concert takes place at 8:00 PM at Seligman Performing Arts Center, located at 22305 West 13 Mile Road in Beverly Hills. A pre-concert discussion with the artists at 7:00 PM is free to ticket-holders.

The program, built around Schubert's immortal Cello Quintet in C major, also includes an evocative cello quintet by Boccherini and the String Quartet No. 2, Intimate Letters, by Leos Jancek, written in the composer's last year of life and inspired a series of passionate letters he wrote to a woman he had met briefly and fallen in love with.

The critically acclaimed Miro Quartet has established itself as one of America's brightest and most exciting young chamber groups. Playing of this caliber casts light on the path ahead, wrote the New York Times. For the past twenty years the Quartet has performed throughout the world on the most prestigious concert stages, earning accolades from critics and audiences alike at such venues as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, the Phillips Collection, Chamber Music Northwest, the Santa Fe and Hong Kong Chamber Music Festivals and Tokyo's Suntory Hall, among many others. Having released nine celebrated recordings, the Miro recently produced an Emmy Award-winning multimedia project titled Transcendence, centering around a performance of Franz Schubert's monumental Quartet in G major. Since 2003 the Miro has served as the quartet-in-residence at the University of Texas' Butler School of Music. In 2005, the Quartet became the first ensemble ever to be awarded the coveted Avery Fisher Career Grant.

Clive Greensmith has been cellist of the Montrose Trio since its inception, beginning with the ensemble's memorable international debut performance on the Chamber Music Society of Detroit series in 2013; the Montrose returned this past September to open the CMSD's 75th anniversary series. Mr. Greensmith also served as cellist of the Tokyo String Quartet for fourteen years, and has collaborated with such distinguished musicians as Andr s Schiff, Claude Frank and Steven Isserlis, and won prizes in the Premio Stradivari held in Cremona, Italy. He currently serves on the faculty at the Colburn School in Los Angeles.
