Men Alive–The Orange County Gay Men's Chorus is proud to announce ACADEMY AFFAIR, its premier gala fundraiser and awards show taking place on the evening of Saturday, March 6. The Chorus has joined forces with celebrity restaurateur Bruno Serato for this one-of-a-kind special event to be held in the West Wing of his exclusive Anaheim White House Restaurant, located at 887 South Anaheim Boulevard in Anaheim.

ACADEMY AFFAIR will feature exciting Hollywood-style entertainment, red carpet interviews, a VIP reception, the presentation of the inaugural Community Bridge Awards, amazing auction items up for bid, and a three-course meal featuring some of the very best selections from the Anaheim White House's five-star menu.

Adding his own special flair to the event will be the one and only Leslie Jordan! Leslie is the 2006 Emmy Award Winner for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his delicious portrayal of "Beverley Leslie" on Will and Grace. Audiences will also remember him for his recurring roles on Ugly Betty, Boston Legal, and Reba. He is sure to have a performance under his sleeve for our attendees…

This evening of music, glamour, and excitement will build to a crescendo as the Orange County Gay Men's Chorus recognizes distinguished members from our community who personify Men Alive's mission of "entertaining, educating, bringing healing, joy, community and building bridges to the public."

The premier honorees in what will surely prove to be a high note on the spring social calendar include:

  • Bruno Serato of the Anaheim White House for his consistent humanitarian work throughout the local community both personally and through Caterina's Girls Club,
  • Katherine Darmer of the Orange County Equality Coalition for her role in creating OCEC and her continued legal support as it continues to educate the community and fight for equal rights,
  • Barbara Venezia of the Friends of Dorothy Guild for her tireless dedication to increase awareness of the local AIDS epidemic through unique concept fundraisers and parties,
  • John Alexander of the Pacific Chorale for his commitment to excellence in the performing arts and for sharing Men Alive's goal of always making beautiful music, and
  • A surprise special guest star will also be honored.

ACADEMY AFFAIR kicks off with a VIP pre-show reception beginning at 5:30 pm on the Anaheim White House Restaurant Balcony with exclusive access to Award honorees, Leslie Jordan, the Board and artistic staff of the Chorus, and an intimate performance by Men Alive's very own ensemble Bel Canto. Attendees will get the chance to enjoy champagne and appetizers, mix and mingle, and take away their very own VIP Swag Bag!

General admission to ACADEMY AFFAIR starts at 6:30 pm and everyone is invited to dress in black tie or come styled as their favorite celebrity. All proceeds go toward Men Alive's amazing full-staged concerts and for sponsorships designed to assist members of the Chorus, now celebrating its ninth season of song.

Individual tickets to ACADEMY AFFAIR are just $100 per person for the dinner and awards show, or $175 which also includes admission to the VIP reception. A reserved table including wine service for ten guests is $1,500, while a $2,000 contribution also includes admission to the VIP reception and your very own star on Men Alive's Walk of Fame.
