In conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of Marilyn Monroe's untimely death in August of 1962, the Forum Theatre at the El Portal Theatre Complex will be renamed THE MONROE/FORUM THEATRE. The ribbon cutting and renaming of the theatre is scheduled for 6 pm Saturday, August 4th in the lobbies of the El Portal. The theatre is also honoring this famous movie icon with the internationally acclaimed stage production of Marilyn: Forever Blonde starring Sunny Thompson at the El Portal Mainstage, August 2 – 5, 2012.

A little known fact is that the former Norma Jean Baker (soon to become Marilyn Monroe) attended 6th Grade from 1937 – 1938, at Lankershim Elementary School – located directly behind the then famous first run movie palace "El Portal Theatre", where she often attended matinees with her guardian.

The new Monroe/Forum has been outfitted with a "lipstick red love seat" and seldom seen collector's items of Monroe's black and white photos.

Champagne and red velvet cupcakes sprinkled with candy diamonds will be served. At 8 pm the curtain will go up on Marilyn: Forever Blonde on El Portal Mainstage.

Renaming and ribbon cutting for The Monroe Forum Theatre will take place Saturday, August 4 at 6 pm at the El Portal Theatre, located at 5269 Lankershim Blvd. North Hollywood, Calif., followed by Marilyn: Forever Blonde starring Sunny Thompson at 8 pm on the El Portal Mainstage.
