Los Angeles Theatre Works On The Air Broadcasts World Play Series, Starts 9/11

By:

Beginning Saturday, September 11, 2010, L.A. Theatre Works Radio Theatre Series will air The 2010 World Play Series, which includes Roaring Trade by Steven Thompson, starring Rhys Thomas, Claudie Blakley, Danny Web, Joseph Kloska, Annabelle Apsion, Jack O'Connor, David Seddon, and Lloyd Thomas; and The Big Melt by Stuart Hoar, starring Jeffrey Thomas, Ete Etuati, Kate Prior, Simon Ferry, Gavin Rutherford, and Ginnette McDonald. The broadcast can be heard locally in Southern California on Saturday from 10 pm to midnight on 89.3 KPCC.

Each year, L.A. Theatre Works joins forces with other international broadcasters - from England, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and Ireland - to create the World Play Series, an opportunity for the world's premier radio drama producers to showcase the work of their peers.

The theme of this year's World Play season is "Money," and first, we bring you the BBC's contribution: Witty and candid, Roaring Trade looks at the personal and professional relationships between day traders ... and how rivalry in London's trading system can spiral out of hand.

Then, it's The Big Melt from Radio New Zealand, a dark comedy about how we try to deal with major world events like global warming and financial meltdowns on a day-to-day level.

L.A. Theatre Works' radio theater series can also be heard on the following stations (check local listings for broadcast times): 89.7 WGBH, Boston; 91.5 WBEZ, Chicago; 94.9 KUOW, Seattle; 90.1 WABE, Atlanta; 94.1 KPFA, Berkeley; 91.1 KRCB, North Bay (San Francisco); and many other stations nationwide.

Major funding for L.A. Theatre Works broadcast series is provided by the S. Mark Taper Foundation. Founded in 1989, the S. Mark Taper Foundation is a private family foundation dedicated to enhancing the quality of people's lives by supporting non-profit organizations and their work in the community.
