Loft Ensemble Presents Arthur M. Jolly's THE LADY DEMANDS SATISFACTION LOFT ENSEMBLE announces the west coast premiere of Arthur M. Jolly's THE LADY DEMANDS SATISFACTION.

The year is 1766, and Trothe Pepperston stands to lose her family estate following the unexpected death of her father, unless she can win a duel against the finest swordsman in the land. Helped and hindered by a milksop suitor, bumbling servants, a Prussian fencing master who thinks he is there to marry her, and her domineering aunt, mayhem and hilarity pave the way for Trothe to discover that she just might be able to save herself.

THE LADY DEMANDS SATISFACTION, winner of the 2017/2018 Joining Sword and Pen Competition and the Todd McNerney National Playwriting Award, was a semifinalist for the Judith Moyer Award for Excellence in Playwriting from the Association for Theatre in Higher Education, a finalist for the Austin Playhouse New Plays Festival, and a semi-finalist for the Garry Marshall Theatre New Works Festival in Los Angeles! The play recently enjoyed its world premiere in Chicago where it was Jeff Recommended and which the Chicago Reader called "Good swashbuckling fun!"

With director Danielle Ozymandias, Jolly's work was previously featured at Loft Ensemble with the 2017 production of Long Joan Silver, which was nominated for 3 Valley Theatre Awards. Jolly and Ozymandias have collaborated on many of his other plays including A Gulag Mouse at Sacred Fools, The Ithaca Ladies Read Madea at Little Fish, Must Be Comfortable With at Broads'Word Ensemble and Past Cerfew at Pacific Resident Theatre.

Loft Ensemble Presents Arthur M. Jolly's THE LADY DEMANDS SATISFACTION

The piece swirls around complex fight choreography co-fight directed by Marc Leclerc and Jo Ann Mendelson. Leclerc teaches combat at the American Musical Dramatic Academy, and Mendelson just completed her MFA in theatre and combat this summer. Both have choreographed and fight directed for Loft in past productions.

As a playwright, Jolly has penned over 60 produced plays, with productions across the US and in Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, and South America. He won the Joining Sword and Pen competition a record three times, the Todd McNerney National Playwriting Award, and was a finalist for the Woodward/Newman Drama Award. In 2016 and 2017, he was featured artist at the Last Frontier Theatre Conference. His published plays include A Gulag Mouse, The Ithaca Ladies Read Medea, Trash, Long Joan Silver, The Christmas Princess, The Four Senses of Love, Childish Things, How Blue is My Crocodile, Snakes in a Lunchbox, What the Well Dressed Girl is Wearing, Bath Time is Fun Time, Rising, and two collections of short plays Guilty Moments and Thin Lines. Jolly is a member of the WGA Caucus, The Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights, and The Dramatists Guild and is repped by Brant Rose Agency.

A true ensemble piece, the production features a solid cast of theatre newcomers and veterans alike: Raymond Donahey, Latiera Harmon, Emma Latimer, Katy Laughlin, Jo Ann Mendelson, Sarah Nilsen, Bree Pavey, Danielle Power and Jefferson Reid.

Loft Ensemble Presents Arthur M. Jolly's THE LADY DEMANDS SATISFACTION

The production features a lighting and sound design by Tor Jensen Brown (2018 Valley Theatre Award for Best Lighting Design). and Scenic design is by Madylin Sweeten. The design seeks to honor the 18th century tradition of trompe l'oeil scenery as would have been the standard during the period in which the play is set.

THE LADY DEMANDS SATISFACTION opens August 18th with performances Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 7pm through September 23rd. Tickets are $20 for general admission, $10 for students with ID.
