Lily Tomlin/Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center Presents BABY DADDY 10/21-23

By:

The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center's Lily Tomlin/Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center proudly presents the return of "America's Gaysian Sweetheart," Alec Mapa, in an all-new evening of stand-up comedy: Baby Daddy. The show hilariously chronicles Mapa's latest adventures as he marches into the unchartered territory of gay fatherhood. Join Mapa for three performances at the Center's Renberg Theatre, October 21-23, 2011.

Recently, Mapa's life was turned upside down when he and his husband, producer Jamison Hebert (Bullied), adopted a 5-year old boy. How do you go from stand-up gigs, red carpets, gay cruises, and circuit parties to being a responsible, car-pool-driving P.T.A. member? Leave it to the star of such hit shows as Ugly Betty, Desperate Housewives and the sweetheart of The View to sort it all out.

If you have kids and are a little sleep-deprived, Alec understands. If picking up and dropping off the little ones at day care or dance/soccer/crafts/T-ball/computer class isn't as thrilling as it once was, Alec gets it. If your heart melts when your kid says the cutest thing ever, hugs you tightly, makes you breakfast of chocolate milk and toast, Alec knows just how you feel ... and makes it all hysterically funny.

If you don't have kids, let Alec fill you in on what you're missing. You'll want to run right out and trade in the cat!

Audiences first discovered Mapa on Broadway in the Tony Award-winning production M. Butterfly. He was given network television's first role as gay Asian series regular on the short-lived CBS sitcom Some of My Best Friends. He then starred for four seasons on UPN's Half and Half. Mapa has guest starred on more than 40 TV series, including Alias, Friends, Roseanne, and Seinfeld. Standout recurring roles include "Vern" on Desperate Housewives and "Suzuki St. Pierre" on Ugly Betty.

Film appearances include Connie and Carla, Playing by Heart, Marley and Me, and You Don't Mess with the Zohan. Mapa's stand-up comedy specials, Wisecrack and No Fats, Femmes, or Asians, continue to air on Logo and have gained him a huge cult following.

Mapa has won the L.A. Drama Critics Award, the L.A. Ovation Award, two Dramalogue Awards, the LA Weekly Theater Award, a Garland Award from Back Stage West and a special citation from the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force for the continuing excellence of his work. In 2004, the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center awarded Alec its highest honor, the Rand Schrader Distinguished Achievement Award, for his tireless efforts promoting and supporting the LGBT community. He also received the Davidson Valentini GLAAD Award for promoting equal rights for the LGBT community.
