La Mirada Presents HAROLD AND THE PURPLE CRAYON, 3/28
La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts continues its 2009-2010 Programs for Young Audiences series with Enchantment Theatre's newest national touring production, The Adventures of Harold and the Purple Crayon. Performances are Sunday, March 28, 2010 at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. This show is recommended for ages 4 and up.
Based on the seven delightful picture books by author Crockett Johnson, the show follows the zany adventures of an inventive young boy. Resourceful and brave, Harold creates the world he wants to explore, using nothing more than his crayon and his sky's-the-limit imagination. This show takes the audience on a wild ride as Harold jets to the Red Planet (Martians, space ships), joins a circus (he tames a lion!) and meets a princess in an enchanted garden (of course, there's a dragon!).
The Harold books have captivated America's families for more than fifty years, celebrating the imagination of children and the unique way they see the world. That's why Enchantment Theatre has adapted these wonderful stories for the stage as its 2009-2010 national touring production. When it appears here at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, Enchantment Theatre will pull out all its usual stops: life-size puppets, masked actors, magic, and music. But this time it will add a new dimension with the use of large-scale video animation to create Harold's world of make-believe. The creation of The Adventures of Harold and the Purple Crayon was supported in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Enchantment Theatre is a non-profit theater company resident in Philadelphia since 2000. It creates and presents original theater for young families and school children through the imaginative telling of stories that inspire, enrich and challenge them. It performs in its home community and across the nation through extensive touring of 30 or more states each year.
LMT's Programs for Young Audiences is designed to give children exposure to a diverse mix of national and international touring stage acts. The season will finish with Storybook Theatre's Sleeping Beauty on May 16, 2010. All seats are $8 for children and $12 for adults.
The theatre is located at 14900 La Mirada Blvd. in La Mirada, CA. Parking is free. Wheelchair access and Hearing Assist devices available.
