L.A. Philharmonic presents NOCHE DE CINE, An Evening of Mexican Film

By:

The Los Angeles Philharmonic announces program selections for Noche de Cine, an extraordinary night of Mexican film music performed live-to-picture by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, along with Mariachi Sol de México de José Hernández and La Marisoul from the Grammy-award winning group La Santa Cecilia.

Noche de Cine will present a diverse retrospective of Mexican film music spanning the Golden Age to the present day. Selections will range from classics sung by Jorge Negrete and Pedro Infante, to music from films like Pan's Labyrinth, Amores Perros and Biutiful. The program will also include a Mexican horror movie montage, as well as the world premiere of a clip from Carlos Reygadas' current work-in-progress with music by Gabriela Ortiz. Reygadas, who is one of Mexico's most prominent directors, producers and screenwriters, won the Best Director Award at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival for his film Post Tenebras Lux. Noche de Cine is co-curated by four-time Academy Award-winning director, writer and producer Alejandro G. Iñárritu and Morelia Film Festival Director Daniela Michel. Noche de Cine is part of the LA Phil's CDMX Festival, which will offer a window into Mexico City's colorful music scene, exploring its vibrant contemporary music communities and rich, centuries-old musical traditions. Spanning six concerts between October 9 to 17, 2017, CDMX will include a diverse selection of music with orchestral, rock, alternative, electronic, film score and more.

A portion of CDMX Festival ticket sales will be donated to UNICEF relief efforts in Mexico.
